    Ignition switch problems! Need help!

So it's not an e30 but at the shop I work at we are stuck on a 1980 320i 1.8L

We replaced (trying) to replace the ignition switch but we cannot get the ignition cylinder into the column. We had to break the original one to get it out. Everywhere I have seen says to remove the bolt.. it is a rivet! So here are some pics any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here's the rivet I'm talking about.

That's not a rivet. That's a safety bolt. The head snaps off when torqued to spec. Drill/grind/reverse drill bit the head off for removal.

Is it important to replace? Do you know the part number?

How important is safety to your customer? Is the car going to fall apart if you put it back as it is? No. Is it easier to steal like that? Well, hahaha, that's actually a terrible point because e21s are ridiculously easy to hot wire anyway.
