    No Proper Size Tires?

It seems there is no proper sized tire for a 16x8 and 16x9 setup or 16x8.5 and 16x9.5. You cannot get a matching diameter.

For instance, you can find a 205/45/16 (23.3" diameter), but no matching 235/40/16 (23.4" diameter)

Is this why everyone stretches the hell out of their tires?

People stretch it because of the poke and stretch revolution........?? not into that myself but whatever. Choices in 16" have been getting slim for the last few years. Even the most basic ford focus or Toyota corolla now comes from the factory with 17" wheels.

I ran into this same dilemma with my 16x8 and 16x9 setup. I ended up just doing a 215/45/16 on the front and backs. The fronts look good but the rears are stretched a bit. When you looked at different sizes, you couldn't get the same tires or even close to the same tread rating.

That seems to be the case. I even thought about going 17", but I think they look a tad big on the e30.

That is what I am finding. Do you happen to have any pictures of your setup?

Thanks for the pictures. I can deal with that amount of stretch, but not more.

Nope, someone else. I had a few is300's back in the day and have been pretty much exclusively on the m3forum for the past 10 years.

I've gone up in diameter to 24.6" rolling stock, speedo is actually more accurate and tire sizes seem to be much more common. Currently running 215/45/17. (yes I know not as bad to find as 16's) Makes 17"s look less funny.

But wouldn't the contact patch be the same for both wheels, essentially defeating the purpose of running a wider tire in back?

I need to research this some more. What is stock rolling diameter? I guess I could look that up...

You are correct, but I don't think everyone goes with a staggered setup for more tire, but for better aesthetics. Fatter lip, more concavity, etc. I struggle with this as I do like that look, but I am contemplating just doing a 16x8 all around.

Essentially unless it's for looks. I'm going a different route once I finish my s50 swap.
