i think that showing up in a car like a camry would say something about you moreso than a 14 year old BMW. if you ask me, camry drivers are very level headed. they see value very clearly. somebody that doesnt showboat and a person that seeks longevity and quality. just something to consider when you are bringing 'image' into the picture. believe me, my dad did all that shit for years when i was younger. he always had the 420SEL, the 528i, the X Type for all that kinds of the business 'relations' stuff. it was definately an image thing. nowadays, he realizes that its not necessary at all. being the owner of 2 small businesses, he is now satisfied driving of all things, a dodge durango. i ask him all the time, 'why dont you buy something sweet!'. he always responds, 'what for? this satisfies me.'

everyone has a different perspective on this particular topic. do what you feel most comfortable doing man. i still think its kind of silly, but who am i?

i think you missed my sarcasm. I also think you need to analyze your situation. You ever been in a office? You think the CEOs go to lunch with the interns and temps? The only people you'll be dealing with will be when they give you orders, and your fellow peons who drive shitty cars too. I applaud your desire to look the part, but it makes a lot more sense to be rather than to seem....

You could sure get a 'hot ass' e34 with all kinds of shit on it, and who is that going to "impress"?

Shit, you're just interviewing? Hell, no one sees your car but the damn security guard, and he wont be impressed with anything....

I put that up just for fun. I wouldn't buy a car like that. Also I have to clear myself up on something. This will be a car I use after college also when I have a serious job and not just an internship. I need something that will last me a good while until I actually can buy something new.

I know that CEO's don't do anything with interns but I will still be using this car after internships.

exactly. or you could just have fun with your car now, not give a shit what nobody thinks, and get a "business" car when you're actually in business...

That's what I was going to suggest if you were really planning to follow through with anything.

But in the end, I'll agree with Rob. If you really want to look like you're on top of things, just keep your [classic BMW] cabrio nice and clean and well maintained. Your car's appearance is just as important as the car itself. "Nice BMW you have there. Looks in great shape..."

I went through this phase too....

                                I looked at e34's, e39's, e38's, e36's, MB C230, Volvo S40's, etc.

Bottom line,,,, if you're working for a large company, nobody will notice what you drive, and it will not matter. Even if you're working for a small company, nobody will care.

I've driven to work in a race prepped e30 M3 with straight pipes, rollcage, harnesses, etc. I got more "thats neat, what is it"... I didnt get one "Oh grow up, this is the business world".

                                I've driven my loud exhaust 325is to work, my e30 m3, dads M3, dads M5, a track prepped e36 M3....

Bottom line, it doesnt matter. Save the $.
                                Below the radar...
