I see nothing wrong with what you have, if cars are a passion and you drive it work they are going to see you enjoy hobbies/cars and your work will take you seriously. A honda or Toyota is just going to make you look boring.'

Very low probability that you will drive your boss around in your car.
Only time you see other peoples cars is when you go to lunch, if you go out. Id much rather drive in an e30 than all the fucking godawful boring cars that some of these schmucks drive. Luckily engineers seem to gravitate towards bmws and porsches, for that much i am grateful.
As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.Comment

no one cares. I slid into work in a 240 for an IT internship
no important person is likely ride with you, and will be far from "impressed" about a 15 year old 5 series...
I had a VP ride in my car with aggressive brakes that were loud and on my stiff suspension. it was pretty fun, but didn't "hurt" my appearance to him. Hell, he rode a Harley to work... how unprofessional...
*shock* - a lot of people at a corporate office will drive boring domestic cars or a toyota.... the president at my former internship drove a 94 camry! ... ever seen office space? Peter Gibbons has a Corolla! Cubicle jockeys are usually boring, and not in some flashy luxury car unless they are tools.Comment

To me, it does make a difference in some cases. In car sales, I woul drive my rusty 86 Mercedes to work, or my lifted and muddy Jeep, but I also sold Chrysler/Jeep, and I always dressed the best anyhow. Now, though, I have my own Landscaping business. I will either use my lettered truck, or borrow my mom's 02 Volvo S60. SHE says the Mercedes has to go, its too unprofessional, and a shitbox to boot. She wants me to get ~97-98 e39.
I would not buy a Camry or Accord. They are good on gas and relaible, but are very boring to drive. I had an Accord, loaded with v6, leather, etc, between my 1st e30 and my e36 cabrio. It was the Accord that got me back into BMW and I havent looked back since. Its transportation, and thats all. Go for whatever you want, but I would get a nice e34.01 325Ci

I remember an intervew, my boss had asked me what kind of car I drove. I told him what was up. He asked why I drive such a dumpy car. He asked why I didn't drive a nice something-or-other, even though I had the cash to make the payments for something nicer. I told him why. About how great the e30 is. I showed him videos. He liked the determination I showed. He hired me. He just dosen't like how its so loud. But sucks for him =]
Btw, I hate people who say, ITS JUST A CAR, YOU ONLY NEED IT TO GET TO POINT A TO POINT B. If that were REALLY the case, whats the point of Ferraris? When I drive, I want to drive in something FUN. Something NICE, something... BMW!!!!!!!
BTW< wtf is qft?My drinking team, has a racing problem.

I worked at a very large business this summer and everyone noticed my car. Sometimes I drove our 94 Accord and noone said a word, but as soon as I bring the 325ic, all I heard was, "Is that silver BMW yours?" People notice. Even the president, who I've known my whole life, was giving me a hard time about driving a BMW and being a teenager. Some people just don't understand the worth of these cars... all they see is that roundel.Estoril E36 M3/4/5 | Toledo E53 X5 3.0 | LeMans E90 335D M-Sport

If a "potential employer" asks you to pick them up, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction because your first paycheck will likely bounce :)
On my first internship my immediate boss never got within 100 yards of my 85 Honda Prelude or within earshot of its' (sometimes) obnoxious dual side-draft carbs. The execs above him probably didn't know I existed. However, whenever my boss and I had to go somewhere we rocked his 7 series and road in style. Turned out, he was kind of a car guy. If I had my E30 then we might have had something else to talk about.Comment

The author of this thread has absolutely no idea what it is to work in the corporate environment. I've driven a Toyota Camry and guess how many people saw it when I showed up for my initial job interview. None. They hired me - the youngest person in the company's history to work for them not because of what car I had, or what socks I had on, or how hot my GF was.
A very naive intern would be one who thought a car was more important than what he brought to the conference table. "Uh, no I didn't really get a degree in college, and no I don't have previous job experience...but I have a BMW!"
If you've got a car now, drive it. Get a new car when necessity requires, not in a sad attempt to elevate your professional status.sigpicComment
