    Help Picking a Paint Color

It's getting closer to paint time for my 4dr 87 325i daily driver. I've finished up a good portion of the prep work, debaged it, shaved the roundels and I'm about to purchase this 6 piece Zender kit:

Also, I'm waiting for Bimmerfanatik to send me the front and rear valances and bumpers.

After that I will Shadowline it & then do the final prep for the Rustoleum Paint Job.

Here are the ideas I've had so far for paint colors:

Satin Black with Gloss Black Emblems

Gloss Black w/ Satin Black Emblems

Estoril Blue w/ Satin Blue emblems

    Silver w/ Gunmetal Emblems

+ Any better ideas you can give me..

(Since I have shaved the badges and roundels off the car I will be painting the emblem color on the car first and then placing vinyl emblem decals in their place and then spraying on the final color. Once finished I will peel off the vinyl to expose the emblem color.)

So you'll have painted Roundels... pretty sweet.

I think the Silver w/ Gunmetal emblems would be nice.

if you're rattle-canning it, just do satin or matte black. Any gloss color won't look to good IMHO.

Not rattle canned. I will be using acrylic-enamel Rustoleum by the gallon thinned out with mineral spirits like the method detailed in this thread:

        http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...6e789ba9e7f47c

Except I will most likely be spraying it on instead of rolling it on like it is mentioned in the above thread.

I will try to definately get some before & after pictures up. In the process I am also getting rid of the ugly blue interior with a black/grey interior.

That is Tara's favorite but I would like a better emblem color contrast to go with than satin blue.

Satin black - you wouldn't be doing any of the other colors justice.

I don't care if you are spraying the paint or not, it's going to come out like shit.

What exactly do you base your assumption on? Experience?

yeah, don't you know he paints cars all of the time? And he knows who you are, what kind of prep you are doing, what experience you have, what kind of equipent you are using, and basically everything else there is to know.

                        Duh.

Reading that Mopar dudes DIY thread got my curiosity up. I made some calls locally about the avalibility of roll on primers, paint, etc.

Rollers and roller are $30 for a 12 pack. Primer was a bit more than normal epoxy type primers. But still, available. Rollers area one shot deal, no clean and re-use with these things.

I made my sign for my shop from a 4 X 8 sheet of 3/4" ply. I smeared it with bondo, sanded it flat and painted it with Rustoleum.

I had Vinyl lettering cut and applied by the sign shop my GF worked at.

My sign looks awesome, shitty prep and all. Best looking sign on Main Street!

The idea of rocking Rustoleum on my car makes me happy.

Do your car in gloss with satin trim. Fuck what anyone says...follow this dudes instructions, get it done.

                          Take pics, post it here.

Yellow!!!!! It will add like 30HP, that is why all the Civic/Neon/other ricer guys are doing it! They are totally on to something. FTMFW!!

Really though I like the Estoril Blue w/ Satin Blue emblems or the Silver w/ Gunmetal Emblems. I'm kinda leaning to the Silver more though. Or Mt. Dew Green........

I'm starting to lean toward the silver as well. Of course this is going to take an entire week to do right in between wet sandings. I need to get the E36 running soon so I can have something to get me to and from work.

As far as the rollers go, the reason I want to go with a spray gun it to ensure that tight spots like around pillars and crevaces (sp?) come out just as even as the rest of the car. I don't know if the rollers can accomplish that or not.
