But how do we know that the logs arent rigged to indicate driver error in order to cover up a mechanical/ hardware mishap? ;)

The VW emmissions computers were just the beginning of something even more serious...

What is more likely: for a computer to simply report its data; or for a computer to identify any number of scenarios as one which would classify as a crash scenario and alter its entire log into one which would alleviate itself of any wrongdoing?

We always talk about the fewer moving parts, the more reliable something is. How many moving parts are in a person?

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

True, but... what's going to ensure that there are no glitches in Tesla's (or autopilot cars in general) takeover of the automotive world? It might be more complicated, but saying that "our cars have NEVER, and WILL NEVER cause an accident by themselves" will sell plenty more units.

      Six?

They also said the Titanic was UNSINKABLE. Tell that to the 1200 or so who went down with it.

I'd say with anything mechanical, there is no such thing as NEVER. I hope that Tesla has good protection of the car's computer systems, because it has been shown on many cars that the on-board computers CAN be hacked with possible serious outcomes.

I have a serious problem with all this automated driving crap... just because it can be done, doesn't mean it's a good idea. The only way I'm handing over my steering wheel is if I ever become unable to drive myself.

All I know, is when the reality of flying cars does come around, that's the day I move my family in to a bunker.

At least when Trina visits my block, the worst he'll do is kill the corner of the house; flying cars - I'm thinking whole blocks wiped out.
