BMW Classic replied to my inquiry with the best info they have. Not es specific but helpful. His reply below.
BMW 325e US type code AB54 (two door sedan with manual gearbox) 1986: 27.342
If 1 in 10 were es then that's 2700. If 1 in 100 then 270!
The number is probably somewhere in between.
I know I see a lot of 325e running around, very few are coupes and/or manual.
So on second thought, maybe most of the manual coupes were es. Perhaps we should start a registry. Don't hate on the eta if you've never driven one. The torque coupled with the 5 speed and LSD is super fun. Mine is chipped which really helps too.

That 2700 applies only to manual coupes?,the ES was only made as a coupe ,so how many automatic ES coupes were made ?I think there are more manual cars now due to the trend towards having a manual transmission ,but it would be interesting to find out also, how many automatics were originally produced as compared with manual cars.My car is still an automatic and I really like it .Comment

He can't give me es figures. That's why I went with coupes as all es are coupes but not all coupes are es. Personally I'm not interested in slushbox numbers as I feel they are considerably less desirable. No offense, I have 5 fivers, all w/auto.

I see no reason to make the point about automatic transmissions yet again ,this is one of the most repeated messages on this forum. The more infrequent view obviously is finding people who actually like an automatic and say so.I would ,and I think some others might like to know the actual factory ratio of auto to manual cars ,but that does not mean you have to be the one to find that information.Comment
