You learn the stuff quick to not need the book.

I have a Pentium III 700/512MB Ram/10GB HD/802.11B in my garage for car stuff. Works great, have all the ETM, ETK, TIS, Haynes, and Motronics Diagrams on it, including every part number of every part i've ever purchased, fully documented.

Plus internet for my bored friends.

...funny - i was on the phone for a minute and caught myself blank-staring at those eyes in your avatar. lol

that is true... this stuff isnt that hard. you do it once and dont really reference the book anymore. i just keep forgetting torque values for example.

in addition to the chat, i have a 12' RCA cable to a stereo amp and a couple speakers to keep me entertained with mp3 and internet radio. next i need a fridge for my ice cold... softdrinks and stuff.

Optical mice get very dirty and don't last more then a day. Ball mouse was the only semi reliable one I could get =/

I've been trying to keep a computer out of my garage for a long time now since I don't want to get internet distracted while working on my car. Luckily I hate wireless connectivity on a desktop enough that I'm not setting up a computer down there until I run a hard line through the attic.

It would be nice to have more music to play though. I think I've listened to everything on my ipod multiples times now.

Even if I purchased one, I'd scan it into my computer so I can print just the pages I need for the application. That way you don't ruin the text in case there were a spill or dirty hands touched it.

The Toyota FSM (Field Service Manual) is 130.00 and you also need the electrcal manual another 70.00. They allow you to pay 10.00 for access to their site and you can d/l the manuals.

For my Land Cruiser it is about 500 files. I got it in about three hours and then spent about two weeks (a few hours at a time) printing it out. All told I'd say I have 35.00 invested and I have both the pdfs and paper versions, not shabby.

I paid Office Depot to bind it up and I'll be damned if every time I needed it I found myself printing the specific page I needed instead of using teh manual I killed myself making.

It's good to have for on the road but while I am home I almost always use the pdf version.

Agreed, I have an old Micron from 96 in the garage that runs it and has net connection.
