yeah, there are plenty engine out there....but IMO I wouldn't put any engine that is not BMW....you know , a bit homo will look, well that's my opinion....but if you don't care to keep all BMW, I mean all origin then change for one of those powerplants... :D

I'm going to have to agree. Sure, other engines get a LOT more power for the money, but it's BMW! I mean, I really find it very wrong to put a non-BMW engine into a BMW. Then, it just isn't solely a BMW anymore.

I have no hate for those that don't stick with BMW, but it's nothing I'd ever do. :P ;)

LS1s also have one of the most intimidating exhaust notes.

            US Samwise, I wish NZ!!

To each their own I say.

To me a car is a car, who cares what the badge says, it is a lump of metal with 4 wheels (usually).
In this case it is a E30 BMW which I chose because it is nice to drive (but slow), so I made it go better with the best HP/$ I could (really, no one wants to pay $4k for 20hp!!)

Just one final thing, don't pass judgement till you've been in it (or tried it).

So if I buy Queen of Beemas 525i, I should turbo the M50, which by my calculations, is the cheapest route for 250rwhp?

                Engine is for power

Im no purist. A non-BMW engine is fine in my book.

I've thought long about putting href="http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/22838/index.html" target="_blank">this</a> motor in an E30. Cheap, plentiful, huge aftermarket support, lighter than an S14, and huge power potential.

I might not have HTML privileges so...

                  Honda engine in a BMW.

Blasphemy, pure and simple. I wouldn't dream of bastardizing a Euro with a Honda engine.

                    Two problems,
                    1. honda's don't come in RWD so you need to adapt a RWD gearbox to the engine,
                    2. All the D,B & H series motors spin in to opposite direction to normal, so you'll have 5 reverse gears an 1 forward on a standard RWD GB.

The only real Honda option is a S2000 engine and GB, which It imagine would set you back more than doing a E30 M3 2.3l S14 conversion.

                    Sam,
                    Sounds like a plan!!
Have you had a look at it??
                    Mint??

I had had a ride with Glenn (E30-323ti) in his car before. I do remember saying.. wow is that flooring it.. and his reply was.. oh thats like 20% throttle.. Full throttle was amazing.. it pulls in every gear.. you could happily pull from like 100 kph in 5th to 200 without breaking a sweat. I love it - its VERY smooth, 208 kW seems like a good amount of power for an e30 :)

Thanks NZER, And I have started modding the engine yet :)
                            Plenty more to come too.

I don't want to get in a shit fight here but a LS1 is a dirty pushrod V8, definitley doesn't come onto my list of desireable engines!!
What about a Lexus (toyota) V8??
4.0l Quad cam, all alloy, 6 bolt mains, forged crank/rods.
