    4.11 Differential Knocking

Hey just had a quick question on my LSD. It's got 300,000km on it and has been making a whirring noise for a while(guessing pinion bearing for that). But recently its started to knock. When giving the car power it has no problem but as soon as the wheels stop getting power the diff starts to knock. Just curious as to what's causing this.
    Thanks

Are you sure it's the diff? If it is I'd look at the bushing. Sounds more like axle noise if off power but moving.

Did you jack the rear end up and run it? If you do this be sure to do it safely.

Also, check the center support bearing.

Grab hold of the input flange, put the hand brake on and see if you can emulate the clunk. This will check for excessive backlash in the diff. There should be some, but not alot.....
