Why go through the trouble? 325i's that are good candidates for SE30 are available all over in the United States. Motorswaps? Not allowed, unless it was available in the U.S. (no early euro high c/r 'i' motors allowed). However, you can swap an 'i' driveline into an 'e' car as long as gearing and everything remains 'i'.

So I guess my question is, unless you are getting the red coupe at a very cheap price, why not wait until you get here to buy a car?

if i where you i'd do the car up in germany (due to the cheap parts).. put an mtech2 kit on there, m50 motor, 5 lug whatever you want. All customs is really going to look for in the vin tag, the catalytic converter (and appropriate smog stickers on the car).. In other words, put a bunch of german parts on it, but make sure the car looks like it could have come from america.

I got the car for damn near free

I'm too crazy about the E30 to wait till the states.

My goal is to go the states with my E30, then find an E30 M3

I ca easily see building 2 or 3 three of these cars for my collection.

IF the car was built in GERMANY to go to the US and its back in GERMANY i don't see what the beef is in bringing it back again.... like was mentioned earlier just make it look like it wasn't meant to be a EURO-SPEC e30 . Engine swap hey, go for it just make it look like it was meant to be there, and hope like hell your next duty station is a non smog law state. You might just have the highest mileage e30 around, bein its been around the world at least once in all its travels i think its quite unique!!!!!

i might be interested in some euro (german) parts

                  i'm already running a greymarket 323i.

                  PM'd

...you should pic up a euro e30 touring chassis and ship to the states as a "body-parts car" then put an engine in once over here! you don't see many e30 tourings in the US
...what hasn’t been done to an m20 yet?

I have an 318i you can have if you want replace the motor. The motor from the junk yard would cost about 150 bucks

                          After doing much research...

I'm thinking that the best path for me to take another 325i motor from the junk yard for extra parts and do a rebuild on the motor thats in it now. That means I will probably be walking after I sell my euro 320i. I would like to do an M50 swap but the problem is I don't think I can find an American M50 block out here in Germany.

                          On a side note ...

I found an 4.4l V8 bmw motor that I have seen other people swap into their E30's, but its European and I think there is too much modifications that have take place to make that swap work.

                            What year is the V8?

The newer the engine is the less different it's going to be from American spec.

Works power lines and phone lines. Yan a bus driver or a wrencher?

I honestly doubt that the inspector is going to look at the car all that hard to see if the VIN matches the chassis vin. Besides you could say the car was brought to Germany by a GI or DOD civilian. Is it your camera that makes the shade of the 320i off? That's not Lagunna Gruen is it?
