On the bimmerforums engine weights, does any one know how they are specifying the weight? Like does it include alternator, starter, exhaust manifold, flywheel, etc, or is it a bare long block? I don't know much about most of the motors on there, but the 258lb. for the m20 sounds low to me for a complete motor with all accessories. Has anyone weighed an m20 or any of the other motors on there for comparison.

The v12 would be an incredible engine for the torque. I am pretty sure they are trouble free, in BMW terms.
For the money, however, an m30 would be the best choice, IMO. They are nuclear-holocaust proof, and can create some crazy low end power.
The owner needs to install a mirror on the underside of the hood to better show the engine!

Nando, what your your listing there is what I consider to be a bare long block. And if thats what they are listing, then it sounds feasible. The accesories, manifolds, flywheel can add up in a hurry though. Some examples of parts I have weighed: Toyota 4 cylinder flywheel 24lb., GM 100 amp alternator 10 lb., GM V8 starter 15 lb., Toyota 4 cylinder AC compressor and bracket 15 pounds. Thats 65 pounds right there, plus 5 lb. for the power steering pump, 15-20 for exhaust manifolds, another 10-15 for an intake manifold with throttle body, fuel rail and injectors (these last are estimates). Your looking at something like another 100 pounds on top of what you get when you buy a long block from an engine remanufacturer. If you take 100 lb. of accessories and other bits off 258 lb. that would be one smoking light motor for a cast iron block straight six! So unless you know what the state of "dress" is, it can rather misleading.

Glad to see this thread causing discussion, I love the interior, the main reason I posted it.
As far as the V8 transplant goes, I hear that it is not too far from the M20's weight, so it is a good replacement...that darker blue E30 is one of my favorites right now, so I won't lie, its tough to decide.Reminiscing...

LS1 with accesories weighs 220 or 240 pounds. I cant remember which. An iron 350 block weighs 80 pounds more than an ls1 block. Just for future reference.
