Mid-late 90's civic. Peppy little car, great mileage, reliable as all hell and a great AC.

Who the hell is recomending a 18-20 year old e30 as a DD?

Maintance is pretty low, just change oil, filters, plugs, I think the timing chains need replaced like one time. And they are poping up more and more for sale at pretty decent prices.

The sole purpose of the early 90s civic was as a commuter car, not many luxery features amazing gas milage and the hatchbacks are great for hauling parts. But its not nearly as fun to drive as an e30...

I love my E32 as a dayly. It's like sitting on a moving sofa.
Those heated seats are worth any price.

              Just my 2 cents.

If you want to go back a generation, the MKII GTi's from 90.0-92 have the 2.0 16v which is a really fun car but not necessarily cheap, reliable or great gas mileage... but a great hatchback to own.
I dig A2's but i dont want one for a DD. If i were to get one for anything other than an ocasional drive it would be an 8v. 16v's are too bitchy.

Shahe- I need a DD because im going through about 1.5-2 tanks of gas per week. ALSO i cannot mod my car if it takes more than a day or a weekend to do because i MUST have a car during the week, and so does everyone else i know. Plus itll save me some money for mods and give me time for the 5 lug/M50 swap.

As of now im leaning towards a 95 honda HB 2 door/5sp. w/AC.

Good choice for a DD. They're appliances, but certainly not an awful car.

I'm leaning towards something like this for my next DD. My commute is about 45-50 miles a day. Might also look at a diesel golf, but the insight looks like it might be easier to fuel, and just looks cool.

..My only beef with VWs is the cost of their parts. You might as well get an e36 ti or 318i or 318iS in that case.

Economical DD to me usually translates to some Japanese car. I have a Maxima which needed nothing but oil changes and tires since me getting it in 2002.

                      I have owned a VW in the past, a B3 VR6 wagon.
                      My bro had a B3 gl then got a B4 vr6.
My roomie had an a2 Jetta and now has a b5.5 1.8t.
My buddies are a2 and rabbit addicts.

I can say from a parallel comparison that VWs can be just like Bimmers in both old sch and new sch categories; not really an economical DD.

wtf? you live in socal, why are you trying to get a daily driver?

if i didn't live in buffalo, I would drive my bimmer year round, and get my Z on the road, and ride my ninja year round

and 5th gen civics started in 92, not 93. they are great on gas, but expect to hear every pebble that hits your floorboards (road noise SUUUCCKKSS)

what he's saying... get a bike... can't beat the fun you can have on one of those & still get 50+ MPG 8)

if that's not an option, i'd go for the 318ti or MAYBE the hatch

                              Ok more info.
I cant get a bike because i need to do lots of taxi work. My G/F has no car at the moment so she needs me to take her to school and work. I need a practical car to drive around that i wont want to modify. Once i get my DD ill let the 325i chill for a few months(except weekends) and save money. Then i can ditch the M20 and have a more reliable lower mileage motor. I think im just gonna bite the bullet and get a honda.

i still dont get why you need a DD. your car is basicly stock. Instead of spending money on a DD, use that money for that m50 swap.
