Is this a fake? - borbet type C

I seem to remember there being a few companies that sold "borbet-like" rims...think this is a knock off?

it looks like a Type-C to me.. I'm not sure if the real thing has that small lip though. ATS Type-10 are also similar, but I'd recognize that instantly (I had a set, and sent them back - ugly and cheap, not to mention heavy).

they look to be C's maybe not...the spokes look a bit too skiny. Also the centercap says something other than Borbet....

can't find any close up pics....

Well the rims in the FIRST PIC ABOVE are 16...so I think the "spokes" would be a bit smaller then stu's short and stubby nobbs... ;) his are 15...

and 17 look even thinner like the one below....

The real Borbet clearly has "Borbet" embossed on the recess between the spokes. The "copy" doesn't.

            The first ones are knockoffs.

The second pic looks like a 13 or 14" C's.

Yeah, considering how big the lug pattern appears, I'd say that's a 14"er tops.

Are fake rims generally poor in quality?

Fake rims usually have minor or possibly noticable alterations from the real thing. Like the Alpina Kopis, I believe they have more spokes than the real Alpinas, but I know the quality is allmost the same. Same for the BBS replica rims.

It depends on what you define as "fake." The so-called "eBay" wheels can be cheap cast copies of high dollar forged wheels, bringing many possibilities of problems/wheel failure to the table. Licensed replicas, however, such as Moda or ASA, are often extremely close in quality to the originals, in this case BBS.

Kopis have 19 spokes, genuine 16in e30 fitment Alpinas have 20.

Thats not a real Borbet Type C wheel.
I used to own the Borbet Type C 's in 15' back in 1997..sold them last year 2003.
Anyways..The real ones have borbet stamped on the inside of the face of the spoke like the picture shown..look closely at the real borbet pic (also have black centercap / raised stickers)
