My e30's totaled, opinions on this other car?

Well I had a fuel leak that caught fire on Monday and the insurance company totaled my car. I'm still deciding wht I'mgoing to do but I drove a '98 528i today and I'm kinda digging the idea of a change in vehicles. The car is kinda beat up though and I want your opinions on whether this car is worth it or not.

    '98 528i 5speed
    toledoblau(i think) grey interior
    102,000 miles
-Many paint chips on the front, some on the sides
-Dent in front left wheel arch
-Not all tires are the same size, one has a nail in it
-Interior is pretty beat up; the plastic around the driver's seat is pulled away from the seat, driver's side door handle is broken off, leather shift know is torn up, some of the wood trim is cracked, cupholders were broken, armrest storage thing won't open
    -Automatic sunroof doesn't operate
-Engine started quickly but the starter seemed a bit labored, sorry i don't know how else to describe this

The place is asking $11,900 for it but i'm sure i can talk them down some. The car runs great and I can fix a lot of the problems with the interior myself. Do you guys think this car is worth the trouble or not?

Actually I graduated so I'm in Chicago full time now. The explosion and fire were pretty exciting though.

We bought a 97 528i for $9k, and it was semi beatup, but not THAT bad.
Alot of little interior things are broken (cheapy plastic shit) but the car overall feels nice and solid, I like it more than my e30.

I would talk them down, sounds like way too much.

E39s are great cars. One of the best BMWs made IMHO.
Buy it and fix it up. 8-9k is a good price for that year/model.

You can get 97-8 540i/6's in that price range.

My brother is selling a burgandy/black '98 540 sport 6spd for less than that.

If you don't mind a V8 that is

as a tech for bmw i can tell you e39's have a shit ton of modules that tend to die and are rather exspensive

                  Actually it's a 2000, not a '98 I don't know how i screwed that up. I think $8k might be a bit too optimistic for the price.

                    I HAVE seen 98 528's go for 8k.

I have not seen '00 528s go for that much.

E39s are great cars. Window regulators and trim pieces are the most common problems; maybe a power steering hose here and there. A 2000 will have ABS unit failure, but at that mileage you're probably past that already.

I'll sell you my '97 M3 for $12,500. It's a creampuff compared to the POS you're looking at.

Sorry, no pics. I haven't even seen the car since the night of the fire. It really did explode though, it sounded like a bomb going off and woke up the next door neighbors.
