i know a guy that bought a 98 528 i mechanically sound, only thing wrong with it was that it had 30 little dents on the pass door from the guys kids slamming the garage door into the car everyday, everything worked, and it didnt have different size tires...

the owner was asking 11k, the guy talked him down to 6k....

E39s are great cars. Window regulators and trim pieces are the most common problems; maybe a power steering hose here and there. A 2000 will have ABS unit failure, but at that mileage you're probably past that already.

Ours had the ABS unit go at 65k, about a month ago. Cost an arm and a leg for the damm "repair kit".

Other than that. Great car.

oohh e39 540i sport w the 6 spd is my dream car...only car i would drive stock til the tires fell off...well stock plus a chip and louder exhuast and thats it....ok maybe a dinan stage 3 package and thats it :bow:

Be thankful for that repair kit. VW/Audi has the same issue right now and they force you to buy the complete unit (hydro and electric together). Some of those are close to $2k.
