It açtually looks like check not houndstooth. Either way if it's that's clean it's valuable (having just bought 4yds of the last known blue check OE fabric)

Welcome to R3Vlimited Acboni13,
From the perspective of a 325e owner, 325e's are a lot of fun, but not all too fast. If you're looking for a fast car I would at least hold out for an 325i as they have some more horsepower(I would look up basic specs of an e30 just to get an idea of the horsepower and torque figures of both the 325e and 325i). However, 325e's are fun to drive in a manual; ripping around town is really fun even though it isn't too fast, and the five speed e30's come with are a great joy to drive. 325e's get pretty good gas mileage too, most people saying they get around mid 20's or so; which makes for a great daily driver. E30's are pretty reliable too, I have only had a few small issues that needed fixing since I've owned the car.
I'm not too well versed with aftermarket parts and attainable power, but there is a huge following for e30's with a lot of forums and parts to follow, so parts, and information are pretty easy to find. Also I wouldn't get an E30 for 350-400 HP; it's definitely possible, but it's going to take a couple of mods to get it there.
Overall, I'd take some time to look into a few more reviews of 325e cars. They are really fun, but for what you're looking for I'd at least go for 325i since I believe it's easy to make power with those, and they are overall faster. Good luck in your search!
I hear you Jeff. I know my seat won’t last long and to make it worse I don’t think a seat cover would prolong its life. My only hope is that some day when I need new fabric I can find something that looks ok and has the nice texture that keeps me from sliding around.
My son has the 1987 325e, 2 door, 5speed
I daily the 1989 325i, 4 door, 5speed
Understood! I reckon the 325e would be a decent "ice breaker" to the world of BMWs! I can post pics of the 325e here to get your guys' opinion if that's cool! Speedo, MPG guage and fuel gauge does not work. Windows don't work. 120,000 miles. Asking price of $2,500. Interior is clean and exterior could use paint.
r3v facebook is the best source for answers to your questions.
EDIT: gf pics?
