    Some great old BMW designs

Just some pics I have of sweet old BMWs.

'67 1600?? (can't find the #/name right now). This is a car built by Glas, but BMW bought Glas in 1967 so this is badged as a BMW. Sweet simple shape, great greenhouse.

1962 3200cs - you can see the origins of the 2800 / 3.0CS roof and greenhouse.

This is the 507 designed by Michelotti (Triumph TR4 & 6, Maserati Sebring etc etc). In one photo I see BMW 3200 on the fender, so maybe the chassis is related to the white car above. It was built by Vignale I believe.

<EDIT> oh, duh, it's a Michelotti version of the 507 V8 roadster below.

The fantastic 507 roadster. Hand-formed aluminum body, no two cars are the same. 11 were sold with the custom-fitted hardtop.

"...conceived by U.S. automobile importer Max Hoffman who, in 1954, persuaded the BMW management to produce a roadster version of the BMW 501 and BMW 502 saloons to fill the gap between the expensive Mercedes-Benz 300SL and the cheap and underpowered Triumph and MG sports cars. BMW engineer Fritz Fiedler was assigned to design the rolling chassis, using existing components wherever possible.
...at Hoffman's insistence, BMW contracted designer Albrecht von Goertz to design the BMW 503 and the 507.

      3.2 aluminum OHV V8.

My friend owns this one. One of less than a handful of 3000GT cars, known to exist, on this side of the pond. More common to see a 1600 or a 2700, but rarely a 3000GT. One of the best sounding engines, I have ever heard. Beautiful, beautiful noises.

Also, the all too forgotten older brother, of the 2800cs - the 2000ca/cs... My friend also owned this one. Sold it last week, after 40 years. One of the neatest interiors, of any car, I've ever seen...

And this falls under Odd Ducks rather than Great Old Designs -
            It's a "328-based Veritas C90 Scorpion Roadster" from 1950....not a beauty.

Top pic, generally referred to as a Glas GT- looks like it was built on a 700
Second pic, not 2002- possibly 2000 based, or the bigger 24/6/800 pan

                    t
now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
