I say go with an e30 M3. They are the shiznit. Won't depreciate either. ;)
Pick up a decent base car for $6000-9000 and spend the rest on bringing it to 100% and mods. You could do that for your target price.

I think that $8k will go a lot faster than you think. I've lost track of how much I have spent on my car, but I know it's somewhere between 11k - 13k...and I don't have near that many mods. Hell, look at Randy Sparre's car, for $40k your car can look like that too.-Brandon
