What to buy to knock out the coating on aluminum wheels to begin polish?

I snatched up some Porsche Powerslots, two look like a mirror and the other two are dull (like silver paint), tried some aircraft remover because i thought maybe it was clear coat or something, no dice. I began sanding at it and it's taking forever and making deep scratches i'm having a hell of a time getting out, looking the most ideal thing to use for a hand drill to get it knocked down.

You might wanna try Acetone. Got the clear coat off of my IROC wheels, but I would media blast if I were to ever do it again. What a PITA!

PLASTIC MEDIA OR WALNUT SHELL BLAST THEM! sand will really rough up the surface and cause you more work in the end and destroy any details such as edges of spokes etc. i used to do alot of alum polishing and stripper took off just about everything except for power coat or anodising (sp) ie early porsche alloys. the factory porsche wheels are painted if they are not forged/chromed/ or have been powdercoated by some one after the fact.

it may be. where did you buy it? usually you have to go to an abrasives supplier to get the walnut or plastic medias. sand is usually had at the depot or lowes etc. it could also be lead or steel shot both very bad ideas to use!! what does the outside of the container say?

I just got it from a depot type store (Menards), it's probably the lead/steel shit.

I need to figure out something, i want to get these things on. :|

Media blast (as Der affe said) is your best bet. I stripped mine down pretty well a good strong stripper then had them media blasted.
