A GTO would be great, but what's the chances of finding a 6.0L for under 20k? Seems impossible, and I wouldn't just want to settle for the 5.7L.

Right now we're looking at either a super-clean e36 m3, an STi, a GTO or an EVO.

Oh yea, and the car has to be a 4 seater at least.

Buy an 99/00 Subaru Impreza(5k), put an 06 STi engine(3k) in it,
some STi Springs and bushings(1k). You now have a car for under
10,000 that is faster than any 40k car on the market. All you would
need is a FCD and you can easily go 170 plus miles an hour, change
out the boxers stock turbo and bov with a HKS unit(s) and you have
pretty close to a 200 mph car on stock internals.

the 99/00 Impreza is about a thousand pounds less that the next model
and about 1500 less than the newest. Plus Subaru has the BEST AWD
system on the planet, Audi can't touch em' and you can quote me.

I did the same to my Forester (05 STi engine) and it breaks 180 with an
extra 5/600 pounds on an first model impreza. Getting groceries in record
          time mofo.

What ever you do, please please please dont get a GTO... Honestly, you'll be sorry, reliability issues are a must.. do you know what a grenaded IRS on a new GTO cost??? cause they go quite often (at the drag strip anyway, I don't know about DD, they may be great for that.) IF you can find an EVO for around 20K, that would be my #1 pic... Turbo, AWD, Four seater, Sharp looks, Fast as a new GT mustang, OR GTO, on a four cylinder, now that's cool. But dont tell my family I said so (We build Mustangs for drag racing, my dad would be PISSED..lol)

dam your cars are cheap. Some examples of prices over here...
99 M Coupe on the yard for $60K NZ ($40K US)
NEW Monaro (Rebadged GTO) costs $70 NZ ($46K US)
                  01 540i sport for $50 NZ, or $33K US

I know you can't really compare like that as there are supposed to be some other factors i don't really know about but dayum.
