I'm about to be on my third pan.

I really should look into getting an oil pan skid protector so I don't have to keep crossing my fingers looking for a cheap oil pan.

    jon- really appreciate your input.
-knowing your design includes a welded-in reinforcement makes me like it much more.

Does anyone know if these available plates have clearance issues with an m42 oil pan (which is lower than an m20 (?))

The OEM one saved my ass as well. I was going a little fast on a club drive and when reaching the bottom of a large hill on a country road my suspension compressed and I RAILED a section of the road that had heaved from a culvert underneath. I immediately shut the motor down and coasted to a stop while watching for oil all over the road in my rear view mirror. The OEM skidplate absorbed the impact completely, not a scratch on my brand new E34 pan.

$200 was a wise investment to protect a $6000 motor IMO.

    Fucking Wisconsin Roads...

You cant really see the mounting hardware unless your car doesnt have a lip. Even then you have to be at quite a low angle to notice.

Also, the plate is 1/4" thick with the additinal piece welded on at the bend which is the lowest most impact prone area. Lets see ya crush that one on your forehead like a pop can ;)

What are you getting the OEM one for (cost wise). PM me if you want.
