You know "hello - I just pick up the phone - who is calling me???"

Voice as in NOT data - an in what you normally do on the phone!!!!!

From what I know, no you can't. I have dsl at home and are currently running off the same voice line to my house. Why would you not want voice and data on the same line? Only problem I see is having to install the noise blockers on all the phones.. That is, unless you dont have a land line installed already!

edit: however some local/state governments are telling the phone companies (bellsouth, for one) to offer a data only line and not be forced to sign up for a voice. Qwest currently offers this. I don't know of any other companies that do this...

DSL...yuck.....get cable HSD...preferably from Time Warner. My brother has DSL from yahoo and he regrets it everytime he comes over to my house.TW is 2 times faster than DSL at least in San Antonio.3000 kps download vs 1.5 kps for yahoo.Aside from that Im biased though...since I get ALL my cable and data services free as an employee. :D

Edit:Oh and you can get data from TW without getting cable

Yea, I have cable at work - it rocks.

But for home, I wanted something on a budget (I dont' have room mates to share the cost with)

Landlines? - who uses landlines anymore - oh yea, my mom. 8)

there are some companies that sell DSL without voice service. your best bet is to call them and ask! none of us here are DSL salesman AFAIK. ;)

of course, I can say this- I have Comcast cable, with 3500 down / 128k up for $55 a month. My friend pays $25 a month for 256k up and down..

                  Through Qwest you can.

It's only available as a "buisiness" option, it's called "Standalone DSL"

                  1.5Mbit/896kbit for $39.99/month
