DREAMING! And even if the price were equivalent it is a horrible basis for a turbo motor. 10:1 compression and huge cam overlap are NOT a good combination for a turbo motor. The m20 is an excellent turbo motor.
how is that dreaming? 1k for the motor and there are pleanty of kits 3k and under out there.
Show me a e30 M50 turbo kit for under 3k! I would love to see you do it so you could prove my point. Good luck running more than 7/8psi on a stock motor.

I never said it would be top of the line or would look good. My point is 4k is a hell of a lot to spend on an e30.
Exactly. So if you're going to spend it, why not spend it on an already existing engine that like TCD said, is already perfect for turbo. I bet the installation of TCD's kit doesn't take more than a day or 2 at the most, whereas dropping an M50 in AND turboing it is going to take at least a few weeks, not to mention all the extra money you are going to be spending on parts and things that can and WILL go wrong.
I'm with TCD on this one. 4k is not that bad for a turbo kit, that is ready to install. Shit, look at AA's kit for the m50/s50 its upwards of 8k uninstalled, and that kit is only 360hp. I paid less than that to totally rebuild/turbo my engine.
When it comes to engine tuning, you gotta pay to play. If you don't want to spend a lot, don't expect to get a shitload of power and have it last.
I know its a long shot.....but CARB exempt/approved? If not, that would be a bummer (and one more reason to go twin-cam). Turbos make great power and put virtually no load on the motor.....just sweet glorious boost.
I've got a spare and complete M20 in storage with under 100K orig. miles that would make the perfect candidate.

Nope, on Carb or exemption, discussed last month due to $$$$
