    Battery for my e30?

Hi guys. I've been lurking here for a while and seldom posting, but I've always found this to be a really great site with lots of information and plenty of personality. If this is in the wrong section feel free to move it.

My question has to do with the battery in my e30 (1990 is, battery in the trunk). Basically, the battery is dead but it's under warranty. I can get a free replacement in about a weeks time (they have none in stock atm), but my e30 is my DD (basically my only transportation) and it's really a hassle not having it running (public transport, borrowing cars, etc.) My family has a couple vehicles around, and I'm just wondering if it's safe for me to use a battery from a different vehicle in my e30? It might not fit right, but I only need it for about a week anyway. What are things that I need to watch out for if I decide to do this? My logic tells me that I should be ok for a short period but not ideal if I use a battery with maybe a bit less voltage/amperage (I know very little of electronics). I really don't want to do any damage, and I guess I could survive for a little while longer without my e30 :( Thanks in advance for any help.

Short version: Am I ok to run a different "non-reccomended" battery in my e30 for a short period of time? What do I need to watch out for?

Yes, it should be safe as long as its a 12 volt car battery.

I have swapped batteries around from my truck, to Alfa, to BMW, to BMW with no problems ever.

Well that's good news :). Anything else I should watch out for? If the battery doesn't fit into the hot and neutral hookups in my trunk (which it most likely won't) What should I use to connect them? All I've got atm is jumper cables, will that work?

just make sure the battery is secure and that you wont get any unwanted ground or short.

if you're battery is in your trunk, you won't want to run a non-euro battery for too long. the euro batteries have a connection for a vent tube to vent the gasses outside of the car.

Really? As far as I know, my old battery never had such a tube. Could you post pics of what you're talking about? I would only run this battery for about a week.

Interstate battery MTP-91 is the only direct replacement with the vent that I know of other than a BMW oem battery. Someone else might have more info.
