So im dropping my gf off in Syracuse a couple hours south of school and Im cruisin back. I get stuck behind a slow car going 45 in the 55 posted zone. I wait for a broken yellow line and make my move. I reenter my lane and as soon as I do I look up and ahead theres a cop. Shiiiiiiiiiit. I slow down to 55 pull over and wait for the guy. He comes up asks if I knew how fast I was going. I told him that I was making a pass of a slower vehicle and that I was traveling at a speed that would have allowed me to make it safely back into my lane. He tells me to wait then brings the ticket back for a 72 in a 50. This only happened about a half hour away from my school so Im going to fight it. Any chace I can win? Any tips for waht I can say to the judge?

No judge will throw that out. You are not allowed by law to exceed the posted limit even when passing. Futhermore, if the guy was doing 45 why on earth did you have to hit 75 to pass him? the top of 2nd (60mph) would have been more then sufficent, and you in all likelyhood could have blown past the cop at 60MPH and he would not have cared.
You made a brain dead move passing without noticing the cop up ahead of you. You deserve your ticket, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Just pay it and hopefully learn from the experience.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

Was this a local cop or a state trooper that pulled you over and ticketed you? I've learned (from personal experience) that out here in Sacramento, CA if you get cited for speeding by a city cop and decide to contest it in traffic court, the majority of the time the cop is a no-show for the court date....which leaves the judge no choice but to drop the charges.
However, if the same thing happens but you are sited by the California Highway Patrol, and you decide to go to court to challenge it, you can flat-out forget it. The CHP ALWAYS shows up for scheduled traffic citation hearings and at which point its your word against the cops for the judge to decide on. And I bet you can guess which story he is going to believe.*

P.S. I don't know NY traffic laws but where I live if you haven't received a (moving) violation within 18 months you qualify for traffic school. You still have to pay the fine plus some processing charges, but spend most of a Saturday listening to some schmuck flap his lips about traffic safety and you will get that 1 point removed from your record. Look into it.Rides...
