1986? I thought this car was newer than that? But an easy find huh? open it up and it jumps out at you. Looks like a clean break did it have any fillings in the oil?

1989. clean break, valve looks ok. the broken piece was just schillin off to the side. i'm a lucky sumbitch - could been much worse. gonna buy new rockers and shafts, put it back together and call it good.

The valve gear was made in 1986 thou see the mold mark on the end unit. maybe previous owner put old valve train in?

yeah, some head work has definately been done. in the number 4 cylinder, there's some track marks of a very small piece of metal being slammed up and down against the top of the combustion chamber. cylinder looks fine. still has hone marks, which leads me to believe it's been rebuilt. no ridge at the top at all on a 200k motor. these motors rule.

edit: the rocker arm says 88, which would make sense as it's an 12/88 production date car.

Looks like a six to me but you can see in person so you know what it really is. Built in 88 sold in as 89 makes sense.

Hahahahaha, you have no idea how familiar I am to that. I broke a rocker arm twice in the same year. I have a used head gasket collection going. (p.s. JB weld doesn't work if you want to put it back together.........J/K)

yeah, i don't expect to be familiar with it, cuz i don't drive this car very hard, but at 200k, somethings go with normal wear. rockers, eccentrics, shafts will be in my hand on wed. rock on.

Damn, you are lucky! That's a nice clean break on that sucker.

Good thing it didn't cause any more damage than that.

We are working on M10/20 rockers that will not have the cracking/breaking problem. They should be good for 8000+, if necessary.

                      I'll keep you guys updated.
