I think a 2 door would be amazing looking. Regardless, I'd rock one.

I also think a 2 door would be a lot better. But as for less than 3000 lbs, I think you guys are dreaming, at least as it comes from the facotry. I could do without the multi-contoured sides, at least to the extent that they have taken them. Its almost like an updated M Coupe with skinnier hips and less power (and a much lighter price tag). If it drives like I am anticipating it will, I wouldnt have a problem rockin one either. Function over Form. As for the LSD, either it will be standard, or will have a Sport package option that would include it. If thats not hte case, I would be shocked.

I remember reading in a Auto magazine somewhere that they will definitely NOT be calling it an M1. I forget what they were going to call it to get around it though, look in past issues of Automobile for it....I think.Originally posted by m42technicPretty cool!Originally posted by shahecheck this out! let's go back to the diesel engine talk. the reason we don't have the powerful, clean, quiet diesels in the states is because our diesel fuel here has too much sulphur in it, and the gas co's here don't want to change it. They say that the costs to produce high quality diesel far outweigh the market value for it. this is because nobody buys diesels here.
So we don't have good fuel, and we all know what happens to high performance engines when you don't have good fuel. they either suck, or blow up.
BMW knows that their new diesel engines are on par with their gasoline engines as far as efficiency, smoothness, and power output, however they believe that the fact that a car comes with a diesel brings with it images of the smoke blowing merc diesels of the past. they feel that americans are too dumb to realize that (in the words of roundel) "this is not your father's diesel"..
great article, not sure which month it was in.
edit: oh, and the 1 series is fucking hot.sigpic

110kw - that's approx what, 145 to 150hp? Is that right? The new MINI Cooper S puts out 120kw, which equates to about 155 to 160hp.
So we've gotta be looking at a somewhat lightweight car. Maybe somewhere in the same range as a MINI Cooper (2500-2600lbs or so). With a 6-speed. Rear wheel drive. Hopefully a limited slip diff. Could be a fun car...

its not going to come as a hatch back model, bmw said it would eat into Mini's sales. it'll come over once the 2-door and 4-door versions are released.Originally posted by kencopperwheatSo the 1 series isn't going to be brought to the states? Maybe in 2007?
