My car at the shop for the week.....me in AL...

I'm getting new tie-rods put in, and my taller springs. My rear is all saggy, and these will bring it up about an inch.

The shop didn't have an opening until Wednesday, but it doesn't matter as I will be in Gulf Shores, AL. But I have to cruise the Buick today and tommorrow.

Also, my uncle used Bridgestones are going on my 'weaves for the Driving School the 17th and 18th. So when it gets out it should be ready to go!!

I think my ride will be much improved with the rear end up to a more conservative lowering height.

p.s. Anyone here from AL? You could cruise by and hang out at the condo. :) Just don't hit on my sister.....

...why are you taking your car to the shop for this? Free labor and alignment?

I wish. I don't think I could get those springs in there myself. Besides, I never have any free time, and am pressed for the deadline. And I want it aligned properly, so oh well.

your car is a bit loose in the caboose if ya know what i mean. I think the new springs will give your car a nicer stance.

          now about your sister....

When my car was up getting the head swapped on, I checked out the rear springs. Seemed fairly tight. Add 1in to them.....you're having a tight fit. And I'm not big enough to smash down 475#, and am without a spring compressor....so..... but I could manage everything but sticking the new one in there.

p.s. Is Engine Degreaser safe for use on spring height perches? I have a year and a half of grime covering my front perches........

Trust me, it is ridiculously easy. If it was tight, make sure the ebrake is down, and then lower the perch if you have to.

:? Dang. It seemed pretty easy, and I read the simple run through before, but I didn't see how I could possibly get them in there....

..Have you ever jacked up your car? The GCs are the easiest to deal with. Its nice to tinker with stuff sometimes, pulling GCs can't be hard unless your car is still on the ground. Tall ass factory rear springs come off without a compressor...let alone GCs  Its not in the strength of the springs, its in the length ;)

The wheels were off, and the car jacked up, but the springs seemed pretty well in there. Who cares. I wouldn't have had time to do it anyways.....between school and work, there's little down time to have the car on jackstands.

I will be messing with the perches though, to prove I'm not worthless. :) p.s. Susp. work isn't the top of my want-to-do-myself list: I'm completely down with stereos for example - did my own install of shit, including an amp - pretty easy..... but suspension isn't the easiest thing to do without experience.

btw, is engine degreaser safe? I have serious gunk on my perches..... or better solvent?

Dont give me that "No time" crap. It seems like you are scared. :D

                      10mins tops.

Some GC springs fall off when you get the car in the air.

                        It's not that simple.

                        1) Jack up car.
                        2) Remove wheel.
                        3) Unbolt shock
                        4) Unbolt sway bar
                        5) Pry out old spring (you don't need a compressor but you do have to somewhat pry
                        6) Pry in new.
                        7) Put wheel on.
                        8 Put car on ground.
                        9 Tighten lug bolts.

It's still easy but a little more involved then the others are saying.

honestly man... could you spell it out any more? jack up car... remove wheel... is this not common sense? hell, the whole procedure is common sense. if you can't figure it out, you're just retarded.

i could understand if a person is having issues removing the rear stock springs, but with any sort of lowering springs, especially ground control, they slide out with ease.

this is along the same complexity as changing oil.

                          --------
to clarify... this is not directed at rob.. if he didnt want to try, didnt want to be bothered, whatever... i just disagree w/ this being "more involved" then was previously said in this thread.

You have to start some where... I've done my suspension over 7 times, the first time it took me 6 hours for the whole car, and I can do the whole car in an hour-hour and a half now. The rear is a 20 minute job - incredibly simple. I pity you for paying someone to swap those springs.

Let's drive fast and have fun.
