Well the guy just called me, the car is done.
Bumpers straighted and painted, he didn't even need a new bracket that I ordered, but didn't come in yet.

The only problem is, my friend told me yesterday hes just going to go through the insurance....BUT THE CAR IS ALREADY FIXED. Am I screwed now or what?

Hopefully I can give them the three estimates and tell them about the bumper situation, where buying a new one would be out of question and that the shop I picked to fix it rather than replace it was the very best option. They except and I tell them I'm going there. Then I can have the guy at the shop date the bill for a week from now or something.

    Anyone think this will work?

give the insurance company the highest quote, they will pay you for it, you don't need to tell them its already done.

up here in nor-cal there is a few body shops i could go too for something like this who would give you at least $1000+ on an estimate.

What He said. Don't explain anything, just ask for your money. They'll just pay you the money and then it's up to you how much you would spend to fix it. If I were you I'd figure out a way to get as high of an estimate as possible to pay for things that you didn't have fixed doing it the cheap way, such as parts and....

Tell your friend he's a dumbshit. THIS IS A CHEAP REPAIR, IT'S GOING TO COST HIM WAY MORE TO GO THROUGH INSURANCE. Deductible + Higher rates='s your friends a moron.

I know, I kept on telling him that on the bus yesterday. He kept on saying that his parents said his insurance rates wont go up at all. He basically turned it around and made me sound like the dumbshit. WTF!

So it looks like I'll take the two highest estimates for 600 and 700 and give it to the insurance ( I dont think I kept them, so I'll have to call them for copies, which I'm sure they made). That means I'll have almost $300 in profit, WOW.

I can't wait to pick the car up (I have to wait to talk to the insurance though). The bumpers are in better shape than they were before the crash, they are probably perfectly aligned, unlike before the crash, and they are painted. Plus I have he painted my mirrors body color on top of it all!

I'll use the extra cash to have the front end done

Hey you warned him. Quit worrying about the way he wants to get you the money, just get it. it's his choice. Just give the insurance company the highest estimate, two will just confuse them and they'll try to screw you. Give it to them and tell them that's where you "would want" to get the work done.

Hopefully his insurance works that way. My mom said it all depends, and some companies only do work at certain shops.

Well I'll have his insurance information by 530 today. Hopefully I'll be getting the money in the mail. If that is the case, I'll pay the body shop myself to get the car back while I wait for the check.

I just need to find the damn estimates, I can't find them!
If all else fails, I have pictures as proof to get new ones.

His parents are right- his insurance rates won't go up- their's will :-) . If it was me I wouldn't worry about post dating anything. You have photos and damaged parts to show his adjustor if asked. They can't force you to fix the car at their shop. If they even suspect any dishonesty they'll balk at payment and threaten fraud prosecution. Just my .02

I guess thats what you get for cutting a friend some slack.

As much as I hate to give advice AFTER the fact, one thing that I learned through a similar experience is to get the insurance info first and foremost and THEN decide what you want to do about it. I friend of mine rear ended me once and I decided to be nice about it and tell him that he could just pay for the damage. He didn't have the money at the time and being that his car was much more damaged than mine, I didn't mind waiting a couple of weeks, even a month or how ever long it took for him to get the money. 3 weeks later, I saw the guy and his car was FIXED! I was like "WTF!" And his attitude was like, "Oh well, too bad... you should have filed a claim." Eventually I was able to get some degree of satisfacton but I figured that he felt bad enough about the accident that the least he could do is fix MY car before he fixed his!

Yeah, good luck with that.
Unless some lazy bastard does a desk review of the claim, not going to happen. Already fixed? Then show us the receipt from the repair shop with their estimate, is what my employer would say.
It may not raise his rates this time, because it's under the state chargeable threshold ($1100), but it sure won't help him if he has any more claims.
Your friend is what we call an assclown.
