Where do you work on your car(s)?

I thought this might be kind of interesting, I'm sure people have a pretty diverse selection of the places they wrench on their old E30, so snap a few pics, and let's see where you get your hands dirty!

Here's a couple shots of my garage. I keep it VERY clean and organized, as this is the first house I've had that actually has a garage. Everyday when I come home from work, I see people's garage doors just FLOODED with shit, stacked to the ceiling and completely filling the whole space. I don't think I could ever let my garage get that way.

My workbench is just a throwaway I scored for free from work, I'm going to be building a new one this spring, with much more storage and cabinets. I also plan to epoxy the floor in the spring, and install several light fixtures throughout for better lighting. I don't own this house, but my landlord has pretty much told me that I can do whatever I want with the place, as long as it's within reason and I run it by him first.

That sucks. I wasn't even allowed to change my oil in the parking lot of my apartment (about the 3rd place back I lived in). My last house just had a driveway out in front.

i do a lot of wrenching on the rv pad of my house. it is all rocky, but blankets covering huge sheets of plywood arent too shabby. that is just for the minor work though. my buddy and i (mr deagle) use the shop we have at our disposal, with a lift and a huge selection of tools. but we got lucky i guess. tranny swaps are a alot easier when you arent laying on your back. i will be snapping a few pics later tonight after we have our way with an m20b27.

On my side of the two car garage. On occasion, I have pulled the car in on an angle and sort of straddled both sides when I wanted more room.

Its not that cluttered anymore, though I have stuff stacked to the ceiling kind of off to the right - where you can't see in that picture.

I wish I had my dad's setup - his house has room for 6 cars in the lower level garage. This is from 2001 when I had the cabby there for winter storage - there is room for a nother car in front of and behind the cabby here (maybe two behind it if they are small) and its actually longer and wider on the other side.

He bought the house from a guy who collected 60's Corvettes.

He also has a 2-1/2 car garage on the main floor where they park regularly.

I thought I had a picture of my garage somewhere but can't find it.
The 3rd bay was completed this past summer. :finger: (Benefits of my advanced age and station in life)
The extra bay was a necessity, as the non-car crap was beginning to take over. I couldn't hardly open the doors on the cars anymore. When I moved in I epoxied the floor, which was a good decision. Unfortunately, some of the concrete was still contaminated and I'm getting some paint lifting. :-?
My original intent was to have one of those antiseptic NA$CAR type garages which would be as much of a showplace as it was a place to work.
              :giggle: :nice:
Yeah, reality has set in. So it won't be featured in Ultimate Garages. BFD. It's a place to work, and I'm much happier living with fluid spills, bondo dust and metal fabrication debris. It's not dirty, but it's not a place for girls to hang out either. Which, I suppose, is an added benefit.
My previous residence had a garage, but since you could see daylight thru the walls, it was pretty useless for half the year. Concrete floor, insulated walls and doors, 220 electric and some still-to-be-completed lighting make it my home away from, well, home.

3rd bay would be great - but zoning would never allow it here. :-(

Either in my dorm parking lot at school or in the garage at home. I tried to organize all the tools in my dad's toolbox, and they WERE!

Came home for christmas...NOPE, not anymore. So I'm like, fuck it. I'm starting to collect all my own tools, and I'll eventually get more when i get my own place. ;)

Soon enough, I will have my own garage.

on my side of the garage normaly, but sometimes I have to work on the parking slab in front of the house if all the space in the garage is being used. Like right now my IS is still awaiting the paint booth so it's on 1 side all primed out with no glass in it. On the other side sits the 4 wheeler (w/ snow plow) and lawn mower with nearly an entire IX in parts surrounding every thing. The IX sits on the slab in front an now that winter my have finaly set in here its gonna be nippy to finish it out.

                      maybe pics later

Ive decided that having a full set of tools is much more important than a comfortable work space. I cant stand it being in the middle of a job then needing to run to the store to buy a tool I need.

The man makes a good point. I'm actually really starting to get a pretty decent collection of tools going. I need to buy a new toolbox soon, in fact. I've got one of the 4-drawer Craftsman boxes, and it's bursting at the seams.

The first picture is how the garage used to look. The 4 women in my family overtook the garage for storage, so we built a carport along side the garage. My father and I just cleaned out the garage and we can now fit cars in all 4 places. :)
