Thanks Greg! This gives me more evidence to convince tara to buy an M-tech II wheel! My mountains are better than yours. -
i've been considering ditching my airbag wheel lately.. mainly because of the danger an airbag can pose if it happens to go off if your arms or hands are in front of it, and also because I think my steering wheel came from a bus.
What I want to know is, are airbags more of a safety improvement for idiots who don't wear there seatbelts, or is there some other reason to have it? I don't see it doing too much if I hit something hard enough to crush myself with the steering column, nor do I recall any posts of people being in an accident with their E30s and being seriously hurt (with or without airbags).
didn't Eurospeed88 hit a car head-on in his E30? I don't think he had an airbag, and from what I recall there were no serious injuries.. a head on collision is pretty much a worst-case scenario, too. except maybe being t-boned by a speeding semi..Comment

Airbags are designed to work in conjuction WITH seatbelts.Originally posted by nandoWhat I want to know is, are airbags more of a safety improvement for idiots who don't wear there seatbelts, or is there some other reason to have it?Comment

Kansas-ix was telling me how he was in a wreck and he could see the airbag deploy but the seatbelt stopped him before he touched it.
All they are is a supplemental system, hence the SRS on the airbag label. They were put there to protect the people who dont wear their seatbelts. Kinda like those bumpers you saw made for people who ran aroudn running into things at 5mph.Im now E30less.

my buddy got into an accident in his E30 and he was in the hospital for several days getting his eyes flushed out from the shit in the bag. Playing devil's advocate, another friend was in a high speed accident in his E30 and he told me that the air bag saved his life.Comment

anyone think an insurance company would be willing to share E30 crash data (with and without airbags)? I might call mine tomorrow and find out..Comment

I highly doubt it. I wouldn't because then they are going to wonder what the hell you are doing to your car......Originally posted by nandoanyone think an insurance company would be willing to share E30 crash data (with and without airbags)? I might call mine tomorrow and find out..Comment

I had an old thread started about this, same answers came up...Originally posted by nandoI'll just tell them I want to buy an older car to drive to work ;)
I don't know if I'm going to ditch my airbag, but it seems like I should keep it, just because it might save my life. I do wear my seatbelt too...
Tell us what the insurance company says.Originally posted by bimmerphileI'd rather break my nose than have sodium azide burns scarring my face and potentially blinding me, or have the airbay deploy at the wrong angle and tear off a thumbReminiscing...Comment

yeah I've seen that thread, not much more than some anecdotal information, I want some cold hard facts..
I've come up with nothing on google though. :(Comment

My friend recently fell asleep at the wheel in his 318is and the airbag saved his life. See, his seatbelt did not always latch in the the buckle and he had not yet fixed it and when he wrecked, he just had it wrapped around the ebrake. Nevertheless, the airbag saved his life.Comment
