Car got broken into.

Yeah. One of the problems with living in downtown ATL. So they popped my quarter glass, opend the passenger door, and stole my radio. They tore my center console apart in the process. They took the ashtray, with two dollars worth of pennies in it. They left a $100 set of darts and my 540 shift knob.... 4 new skateboard decks, three completes, a 100 pc husky tool set, an air compressor, and a ridgid 14.4 impact driver (all in the trunk). So I guess besides the fucking hassle of replacing the console and pop out hinge, I got off pretty easy.

What fucking idiots. Unless your head unit is an LCD screen they left everything that was of value and that was easy to just grab and go in the car. Why would someone go for the easy stuff?

I think because it is much harder to break into our trunks. Since we don't have a popper on the drivers floor board, in the glovebox or somehting similar. You need to have the electric locks or use your key in the rear.

The trunk would have been unlocked when the thief unlocked the passenger door. All the thief would have to do is push on the trunk lock to open it.

Hmm....yea i suppose that is true. I havent tried it, but i guess if you turn your key totall horizontal they cant unlock the car from the inside.. Mine does it, but I haven't tried unlocking the car that way.

Also consider that nobody is going to steal what they cannot see or what they do not know is there. Once when my car was broken into when I had over $400 in the glove compartment. They took the change from the ashtray my checkbook and other minor odds and ends that were not worth much but they didn't get the money. But for the reason that you described, I use my deadbolt when locking the car up for the night so that if someone happens to break a window they can only get as far as the window will let them.

correct. The trunk has two lock positions. One allows the trunk to lock/unlock with the doors, the other only allows it to be unlocked with a key. It's a great way to prevent your trunk being broken into :)

The trunk lock on my Eta does not work with the central locking. I guess that can be a good thing too.

That sucks man, sounds a lot like when my E30 was broken into. Smashed the quarter glass and unlocked it. They broke up my HVAC panel when they took the radio out, and they left a stain on one of my seats. They also went to the trunk and took 5 wallets of CD's and my amp, but left my sub and a $310 pair of shoes that were sitting in the trunk. They must have run out of time. The worse thing is they did all this directly in front of my own home.

I never doubled locked my E30. I am really glad that the E36 automaticly double locks every door whenever you lock the car with a master key. I also set the code on the OBC so the red light comes on the OBC.

thats why i ALWAYS remove the face to my stereo.
the one night that left the face in the glovebox they broke into my car and stole: some cd jewel cases (empty), 3 cd's (crappy), a cookie i had in the glove box, like $0.90 i had in the ashtray and a flashlight in my map pocket. they left the stereo face in the center console, a wallet with 150 cd's under the passenger seat, and my iPod between the seats!. now I leave absolutly nothing of value in my car or anything that LOOKS valuable in plain site.

Besides that slice in my dash everything is fixable.
In fact I went to Pull-a-part today and for $27 I got two hvac consoles, a new ebrake console, an ashtray, and 3 quarter glass latches! All is re installed except the stereo (I have a new one on the way). My obc is working but won't light. It was lit before I replaced everything, but now it is dark...... On a positive note, I replaced the hvac bulbs finally! So that's good.
