Alright, I'm looking to get a new car in the spring. There are a lot of classic cars that I really like... such as some old datsun's and old mini's and 2002s, etc. But, I am new to working on cars so I want something that's rust free and not so hard to do some basic mods, learn about cars, and have some fun. I need it to be pretty reliable. My budget is around $6000, do you think that a 325is is a good choice?

    Please give me some ideas...

You're asking on an e30 forum... chances are folks here are going to tell you that a 325is is a great car.

You can get a REALLY clean e30 maybe even a M50 325i/is for 6k. Keep an eye out for them. I have really enjoyed my time being an e30 owner. I also have a 74 2002. To start out in this "game" I would suggest starting with an e30 and moving onto 2002s. parts are easier to find, larger aftermarket and cars break less.

For $6k you should be able to get a very nice E30. Any of the cars you mentioned would be nice to have but the E30 would be the best daily driver. If you want a project/garage queen a mini or 2002 would be a better "investment" and they're much simpler to work on.

As said before 6K will get you a very nice 325is, and you might have a little bit left to play with, I got my 1st e30 almost 2 years ago, I am now up to 3 of them so find a nice clean car and have it.

I would say, find one that is all or close to all original that way you are dealing with all factory parts off the bat. Spend about 4500 and use the other 1500 to make it your own right away.

For $6k you could buy a decent E30 and have half of that cash left over for performance parts! 325is would be a great place to start if you want an affordable, reliable, quick car that you can have a bunch of fun with.
