    should i buy it?

a friend of mine is selling a 92 vw gti for 1000

im thinking about buying it but the car has been sitting for a while and i know that it needs a lot of attention.

what are the strong points of this car if anyone knows?

i know this is r3v, but i was wondering what kind of input you guys have on this.

    thanks.

haha i still have my e30. the only reason im looking into the gti is so i can have a second car to get me to school and work while im working on the e30.

i dont plan on letting my e30 go. :)

Good points ? Cheap to insure, maintain, parts are not hard to find, can be made fun to drive and nimble. What engine is in that thing 16v, 2.0(2.slow) or vr6 ?

                  its the 2.0

did they come with a turbo back then? i dont know much about this car since i've only seen it a total of 2 or 3 times.

i know it needs a paint job though.

2.0 is basically the "ETA" of the VW, its 8 valves. It will go on and on and on but it's not the "fun" engine to have but can be boosted of course. It's fine for a cheap daily though. Don't believe they had a turbo back then, newer ones had an option for a VR6 or you should look for a 16v 4cyl engine instead.

On the contrary, vw did produce a 2.0 16v...most prominent in passats tho. The 1.8 16v is a strong contender. Lotsa potential.

I would say put $1000 into your e30...I am partial though, I just sold my 87 GTI (1.8 16v) and bought an e30. Lets just say that I am much happier with the BMW and an extra grand to put into it would make me even happier.

If you buy that car you will spend thousands maintaining it.

                              I had a '91 GTI money-pit before my e30.

                              dont do it..
