    There's no such thing as a 760iL.
    There's a 760Li...but that's only from 2002 on.
    It replaced the V-12 750.

    And the 750Li replaced the V-8 745Li.

    So, from 1988-2002 it was a V-12 750.
    And from 2002-Today it's a V-12 760.

Maintenence on that motor can be big bucks. I have seen tons of these sell for 4-6K because of that issue. Cool cars other wise. Whats your budget; try to move into a little newer one.

The only one I'd ever consider is a 735. It will be the most dependable, cheapest, and easiest to work on. Even then, the late model M30s use Elring brand head gaskets that don't last as long as the old Goteze ones. Beware of coolant streaming down the side of the block.

The V8s are money pits because they constantly go through intake and valve cover gaskets. The V12s are tough to work on because it's so cramped in the engine bay; and when those throttle bodies go bad (which they will) they are $1k a piece.

Transmissions are generally OK on all models as long as they haven't been pounded on.

It will probably need bushings and ball joints in the front.

SLS rear shocks are $$, but other than that the system is cool. You may need to change the nitrogen chambers once in a while.

Power seats are easy to fix.

Door panels and headliners like to come unglued, just like E34s.

Instrument cluster circuitry was updated in 91 to fix some issues.

Lamp control modules go bad. Some people try to re-solder them, but that doesn't last long. New ones are $300ish, and are updated design that last longer.

I'll agree with the above statement.

The V8 is cool motor, but not without it's problems, and that leads me to believe that the V12 would be more reliable overall... Used Dk motors show up on ebay all the time, so if they ever go bad you could get by without spending almost $1k each.

I have totally considered a 735i myself. The M30 is awesome, totally reliable as long as you keep the fuel injection components working correctly. Head gaskets are easy, and not very expensive if it needs one... Plus the 735i didn't have SLS iirc, and even the SLS models can be fitted with Bilsteins and H&Rs to give it a sportier ride. E32s are the pimp shit (after the 6 series, and E34 of course), and they look mean as hell with the right set of wheels, clear indicator lenses, etc... Plus they are steal, you can get 735is for well under $3000 that don't need a lot of love.

Plus if you get a wild hair up your ass someday, its easy to turbo the M30. Turbo M30 > M70 all the way ;)

what does one do about the headliner? it's coming down in the back.

also, what are some 7 series forums? It looks like I will be buying this car, and need a few things, mostly just a few little things, and wheels/tires

                        hot.

what offset/bolt pattern am i looking for for an e32? also, from what other bimmers might wheels fit?

not that wheels are normally a priority, but the car needs 4 tires and I'd rather just buy wheels and tires

I have been getting major wood from the thought of an e32 as of late. 735i Calypsorot Metallic or alpine on parallels, maby after Europe next year.
