200,000 miles??

I found a really really clean 1989 325is within 20 minutes of my house for sale. I love everything about the car except one thing... it's got 200,000 miles on it. Is this just too many miles to even consider when i'm looking for somewhat of a reliable daily driver?

dude, you new to the whole e30 thing? it appears so.

i know of 3 E30's with over 200,000 miles. one of which is my own. and they all drive just dandy. plus the 89 325is is an amazing machine. with appropriate maintenance, and a timing belt change when you get it, the car should squeeze out another 200,000 miles.

mine has 250+ on it. Its all about maintenance, and how well its taken care of. if the motor feels good, then go for it!!

p.s. i bought mine w/ 230K, and it just posted stock numbers to the crank on the dyno (completely stock)!

i don't know if it runs well yet b/c i don't want to be the jerk that test drives a car without a realistic chance of buying it... i want to see if i'm making a stupid decision before i go out there and give it a run. but how long will this thing last with good maintenance reasonably? do they really go to the 300,000 or more range?

They are good for 400k plus if im not mistaken - if you dont drive it like a moron.....

edit (redlining when cold, old oil, no oil, ect...)

hell yes. my e30's odometer broke like 4 years ago. and it has been driven like a dog (from the PO's story) until i bought it around 6 months ago. so i would not doubt that mine is near the 300,000 mile range. but it still drives just fine.

They are good for the miliage. My odometer says 160~K and it hasnt worked for a long while, I drive hard usually but never stupid, i let it warm up and don't intentionally abuse it etc.

You have to remember that if you hang on to your e30 long enough, you wont have a 200k e30 anymore. All the parts will be replaced at some point :)

Exactly. The only things on my car that have the actual 226k are the bottom end and the frame. :D

If we're going that route...
Seats, carpets, really the whole interior, bottom end, top end, diff, and a few other pieces.
There's a reason people will continue to put money into these cars, they don't suck complete ass.
