Definately search for the other threads. There is a TON of good information.. so much good stuff that it would be useless to repost it here.. but generally the process involves wet sanding between coats and then sanding the final coat over and over again by progressively using finer grades of sandpaper.. where you might start out with the #400 and then going to the #600 and then 1000 and so forth and eventually using a #3000 polishing compound and a buffing machine.
And then by the time you wax it up really nice I imagine that it will look like a professional paint job.
I think that I will be able to save a little bit of grief because I am going to paint it the same color (black) so things like the door jambs won't be that noticeable if I don't paint that too. I also considered buying a beater car of some sort to test this out along with some of the other DIY's mentioned on this site. That way when I drive the beater around town, people can say, "What a fool! That paint job costs more than the car!" Oh contraire!Comment

That's F'ing hilarious.. I like your style. The pride of doing it is why I did mine but I feel your pain it was a lot of hard tedious work that move slowly and seemed like it wouldn't end. I was testing myself, I just wouldn't quit. Painting my car was like my bravehart. Congrats brother.I wanted people to walk up to the car and say, 'wow, that's one nice car, it looks flawless. Where did you get it painted?'. I'd say, 'I painted it with a roller and rustoleum paint, but I did it all myself'. I don't know, I kinda wanted to have that pride in doing it myself.Comment
