I think it's a neat proof of concept. It would make a neat daily driver if you didn't have an extended commute to make every day. One of the biggest limiting factors on that car would be it's brick like aerodynamics though, the resistance is murder on the mileage you get out of the batterys on a car like that. Hence why you see the designs like the GM EV-1 or the hybrids from honda or toyota.

I agree with charlie.
my mate has a honda civic hybrid, he gets 60 to the galloin and has all the toys. full leather air con climate control heated seats.
the e30 is ideal for a conversio, rwd makes it easy to hook a motor up...boxy makes it easy to store batteries.
the more manufactureers take on evs the cheaper they will become. If it means i can keep my petrol e30 for the weekend i would love to do it....means we can keep our e30s running for longer!!!!

why do ya need to go more than 60 to work? they use that controller in electric drag racing and they do far more than 60.
There is an ev sports car. it does 100 miles on a charge (which is quite usable for commutin...especially you can charge at work too). It did 0-60 in 5 seconds or so and did 100mph.

20-30 mile range? I'm going to assume that's with no accessories running. Let's say you use it as a commute car to/from work, and it gets dark and rains. Turn on your wipers and headlights, that range drops to 10 miles. Floor the accelerator to avoid being creamed by the jogger in the crosswalk and it drops to 5 miles. Drop in your favorite Britney Spears CD into the Pioneer head unit to sooth your nerves from the near-collision and two blocks from your work things start to dim. Use the electric motors to roll down your windows to call for help and battery reserves drop to nil. Watch as gasoline-powered vehicles laugh at you while sitting in their luxurious cars with power headlights and windshield wipers.
Electric cars don't work. They are not zero-pollution emitters, but simply transfer pollution from one source to another. Don't get me started on CARB's stance on this...

BMW made a couple electric cars based on the 325ix for use by the German post office. no idea on their specs though, I can't imagine that the technology from the early 90's was as good as todays.
personally, I'd take a turbodiesel or gas/electric hybrid over a pure electric car. I drive about 50 miles a day, and electric cars take 8 hours to charge.
