Rebuild the head or purchase a one that is already reconditioned. Those are your only two options at this point.
Broke My Timing Belt :curse:

When I broke a timing belt on an M20 it also looked fine from under the valve cover. Pulling the head revealed half a dozen bent valves. After your description of how it cranks it's a one in a million shot that you don't have a few bent valves at the very least. The clatter sound you described might mean worse problems like a broken valve and damaged piston though. When mine broke at about 1500 rpm it just shuddered and quit, no clattering. The worst effect on the pistons was some of the carbon was knocked off...
just realized you live in Hemet, tell me you have fun on highway 74. best damn road ever!

You know it! The only down side is the driving in Hemet itself. Nothing but cryptkeeper lookalikes that use the "pray-and-go" driving technique. I've had to make more huge evasive moves in the 4 years I've lived in Hemet than in all the preceding 10+ years of driving. Hard to say what's worse: Knowing that at least half of the drivers around you have NO idea that you're even there, or knowing that every stop sign will result in a stand-off. I'm constantly rolling up to 4-way stops with 3 cars already waiting and I end up going first. Damned blue-hairs just sit there and stare at each other...Comment

Lol, my uncle lives up in the Pinyon Pines area, I always loved taking the back way from the desert up 74 and down to the 10. Maybe next time I'm back in California we can set up a group drive or something. I loved seeing all the Porsches, Ferraris, Vipers, etc. groups go up/down.1988 M3, 97 840, 99 XJ
