I have same problem, I usually put boards on fornt of my car and then drive/push my car over them to achieve the space.

Stock jack is potentialy dangerous for car and user if you are not working on flat and solid surface. With blocked opposite wheel and good surface it does the job.

I got a $25 GM floorjack at wally world, its not the greatest but I like it better than the factory ones, then you can jack up by the subframes and whatnot.

I don't trust the factory jack near as far as I can throw it. But there are times when you just have to use it!

Like the time your car dropped off the jack "unexpectedly" after swapping the front suspension? :)

I need a new one. Mine will go half way and then just stop working. If you even try to turn it a little tiny bit the car just shakes. I made sure to take it out of my trunk and get a floor jack from the zone.

While we are on the subject of jacking... what about the 760? Someone told me that it has jacks built into the frame so that a tire can be changed easier. I don't know if this is a rumor or if they have this on a different car. But that would be a cool mod to add to an E30.. especially the ones that are too low to get the jack underneath it.

Are you saying that the 760 has them like some trucks do? If so thats neat but to make it work on a e30 will require some real dude sweat and lots of elbow grease.

Brant dropped his car on my hand because he turned the floor jack handle the wrong way....

Lucky that side of the rear suspension was out so instead of having my hand cut in half by the rear rotor and floor, it just bounced off my hand and did no damage.

That has always been my biggest fear. I am not worried as much about the car completely falling on me as much as that brake rotor on the concrete with my hand in between.

I would say that it's a pretty good stock jack, i like it a lot more than the pain in the ass scissors jack my old Honda had but it's not really meantto be used all the time. I used mine a lot and it eventually stopped working.

                              I recently had a flat.

I had to lift my car with the stock jack on an angled piece of asphalt. The jack was too high to get under it. I put it in sideways at a 30 degree angle and jacked the car up.

Got the car to a high enough point to put the spare tire under the car, dropped the car onto the spare, and readjusted the jack, got the car up, swapped out the flat one.

And I forgot to use my wheel chock. Had the tire patched and did it again today. I think its hella good for the job. But thats just me.

stock jack is OK, but it is sometimes too unstable on uneven surfaces from my experience...and once i had a mental lapse and opened the drivers door with hte jack still there under it...one dent later in my door i learned my lesson:sad:
