    Well.......that's unforunate.......

I was definately excited for the Hoosier CCA's coming Rites of Spring Driving School, but it seems I wil not be able to do it. I have been waiting SO long, but I can't get my cat tech'ed for it.

On Saturday I went to the sponsered free Tech Inspection, and found out I have 3 shortcomings: 1) Guibo 2) Battery Tie Down 3) Rear subframe bushings.

Now I dropped by favorite suspension shop in the area today and talked with the guy who just did my alignment. He said he saw nothing undrivable about the bushings, but they were not in good enough to track. So I can keep driving my car, just need to have them replaced before I hit the track.

Only thing is the parts + labor is $600, for the rear subframe bushings. And it would have to be done in the next week and a half.....cutting it close. So I backed out of the school, and a lucky member of the waiting list can now hit the track. I'll still be there that weekend, just not as part of the school......a spectator.

Good news is, the alignment did WONDERS. The car now steers straight, and the wheel is no longer at an angle. The raised rear is the great change. The ride has been much improved. Instead of riding so low and being murdered by each bump, the shocks actually can work I wondered why such waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles spring rates would ride so harsh.

This summer (when I have more time) I aim to remove the subframe on my own......maybe with a friend or uncle's help. While it's out, check the diff bushing.....think about a 4.10 or 3.91 if I can. At this time, I'm also going to use adjustable camber/toe rear trailing arm bushings installed. This will allow me to lower the car and keep the tires from being eaten......or increase negative camber both front and rear for the track, if so desired. (Will also do guibo at that time, and hopefully Z4 shifter :))

I AM VERY SAD I WON'T BE HITTING THE TRACK! but shit happens. It's tough to try to own, drive, and track a BMW but I'm trying my best.

That is weak sauce, but I'm glad to hear that your car is getting some kinks worked out. You'll get out there sooner or later

$600 for the subframe bushing installation?

I spent about $5 on scrap metal and a long, big bolt and had a friend weld a tool for the bushing removal, then had the old ones out and the new ones in in a flash. It's so much cheaper to do the work yourself!

$600 for replacement all together - parts, use of tool to remove bushings, and then putting the new ones in....... but yeah, screw that

I will hopefully spend a week during the summer doing a big overhaul on my car: guibo, Z4 shifter, diff (maybe), exhaust (dynamax sounds so so sweet on a M20), straighten out that rear valence, rear subframe bushings and adjustable rear camber/toe.

I don't know how you can weld up a tool yourself. weird. But from what I got as reading is a $130 tool is usually used.....and it's not a fun job. I can't understand, from what I know, how it could be easy. Even with the tool it sounded unfun. That's why I'll just bring the subframe out of the car to a shop and have them press the old ones out. Or pull a Ryan Stewart and burn them out.

Actually look in this month's Roundel. Our Rob with the M6 asked about doing his rear subframe bushings. 8) He's a star!
