AAA card is the big one. You might upgrade to 'plus' to get the 100 mile tow. You might call ahead and if the mechanic or the local NAPA you use can have the set of hoses/belts ready, even prepay w/ a cc, so you save tax. Take back all the hoses / belts you don't use to your local NAPA, or whatever chain store you have both there in Cali & back home. Then you have them if you need them, but can get your money back if all goes well. Just keep the receipt.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

      Coolant/water

      Tire plugs/source of air

WD 40- good for spraying on plug wires/cap/rotors to help dissapate h20 if you get a misfire

          lack of rust?

I'd bring pretty much what's already been mentioned. Also, last time I was in ACE they had coolant hose "tape" to fix small leaks. Might want to try a roll of it. I keep some in my track box, but thankfully haven't had to use it yet.

Only other advice I have is to keep your cellphone charged and enjoy the drive if you have a week. Good chance to see some sites along the way. On that note, be sure to bring a camera.

What way are you gonna do? I just did Pitts to Scottsdale. I hope your route takes the 54, depending on where in CA. The 54 is a fucking awesome road, and a good shortcut across country if you plan on coming to the southern part of CA

Inexpensive, manual, rust free, spotless interior, under 100k, and with lots of records. Issues come mainly w/ the paint. I'm hoping to paint the faded panels flat black and eventually put a heartier motor in it.

First stop will be Vegas (should get into Vegas between 12-2AM). Debating about whether to go through LA or cut across the middle of PA to Bakersfield (car is midway btwn LA and SF). Heading down the south route; 40 to 44 to 70.

Edit: Where is 54? I could take the 101 down to LA.

Instead of the actual hoses, get a hose repair kit or a supply of double-ended fittings with worm clamps of various diameters so that you can repair whichever hose fails on you. Secondly get a couple lengths of bulk hose so that if you need to make a larger repair, you have more than enough hose to patch up the problem. Also bring the following:

                              1 gallon of undiluted antifreeze
A pack of epoxy putty (if you have to plug a hole in the radiator)
3 gallons of water (to refill the cooling system completely in the event that you loose all of your coolant)
A tire repair kit and an electric air compressor. (its easier to pull out the nail and plug the tire and refill it without having to jack the car up. This is useful if it is raining)
A starter, an alternator and a fresh battery. Buy these things from a national chain so that you can get your money back once you get to PA.
                              2 quarts of motor oil.
                              1 quart of transmission fluid.
A quart of sawdust (in case the tranny dies on you and you need to limp the car to the next stop.

Also this time of year, its best to go across the southern states. My uncle brought a car to the east coast from CA and went through the mountains of the upper mid west. And if you do it this time of the year, its not a fun trip at all. There were tons of snow and ice while the big trucks and tractor trailers were zooming by on the steep mountain ridges. He said it was very scary.

I say bring a snowboard and roadtrip through Utah and Colorado. Theyre getting hammered with snow right now and the riding should be damn good through there.

                                But seriously, hookers and blow.
