    Flywheel (street) suggestions??

Sorry for the numerous new-b posts today. Pretty sure my e30 has a stock flywheel. Wondering what you guys do - lighten stock flywheel or install aluminum? What weight should I look for in a street car? Are these twin mass flywheels?

    TIA,

You should have a single mass flywheel.

Unless you need a new clutch or the tranny has to come out anyway, I wouldnt worry about it for now.

There are lots of nubers floating around, but most agree that your stock FW is 17lbs, lightened stock is 12-15 and Aluminum is 8-10.

lightened stock should be great on the street.

personally, I wouldn't do a full on aluminum flywheel on the street.. I guess it would like to rev, but low RPM drivability suffers, and there are idle issues as well. having the stock flywheel shaved down a few lbs is a good compromise, not to menton far cheaper. mine cost $35 including balancing.

I guess I'll look for a flywheel in the classified section and get it lightened. The gearbox is fine and there is no reason for it to come out. Clutch pedal engages very high which could be adjustment OR could be flywheel step needs increasing. I may take a weekend to pull things apart and inspect.

Mainly kicking tires now but I do appreciate the help. I have a shop that will lighten the fwheel for $40/hr (1.5hours) so if I can pick up a cheap wheel with good ring gear I'll just do that.
