Dreaded window regulators for the rear!!!! Only own one in warranty.

Trent, I think just about everyone is having sludge isues these days due to the US driving enviroment. Long drives with constant stop&go and combined with lack real maintaince being done on normal basis. The free warranty servivice provided by dealers is Lack of maintance.

or maybe they're just crap. I don't like consumer reports, but notice where Audi and VW rank in quality vs the other manufacturers (hint: not in the top).

What about MB and Chrysler? They too are having issues.

Audi (nor VW) has made a reliable car since the early 1990s.
They make some good products. They just aren't reliable.
I say this having owned an Audi for the last 15 or so years.

I love how everyone on here speaks like they've actually owned and maintained an Audi or any VAG product for that matter. They are great vehicles .....just like a BMW you got to pay to play.

I don't think too many ppl are arguing your point. The problem here is that Audis are "pay more, play less" then BMW's :D

I'm referring to late 90's examples... I don't have experience with their earlier or later models.

probably because I don't know anyone who owns audi/VW products and hasn't had problem after problem with them. BMWs may be high maintenance, but there are very few showstopper problems that will leave you stranded or unable to drive.

My family has always owned audis i've had 2.
1998 A4 30v Quattro Avant 5 speed, fun to drive, great in the snow, a bit of a pain to work on but, I did the usual(timing chain, waterpump, thermostat) never gave me one problem ive had it for almost 2 years put about 8k on it.
1987 4000cs quattro, great car fun to drive, not fast over 450k(original motor never touched) still runs like it was new, has had all the common 80s early 90s audi problems window regs and electronics, great car my whole family uses it as a spare car now.
My dad has a 2000 S4, my aunt, uncle and 2 cousins have A6s.
I have no problems with Audis and have no problem owning one. The only reason im selling mine is insurance is expensive. And im just as happy with my e30(more unique too).
No matter what car you own You Pay to Play.

You're an idiot. I work on them, I know more about Audis and what their strong and weak points are than most of the people who own them. They're worse cars than BMWs hands down.

I don't think that's the point, nobody is comparing BMW to Audi, the dude just asked an opinion. It would be more constructive if you told him what the common failures were and the typical costs associated with them. Just sayin'

I've done a few months work on some Audis. Never ever will I ever do work on one again. We always lost money when they came into the shop. Ofcourse, wichita doesnt even have an Audi dealer and the VW dealer sucks balls and wouldn't work on anything not sold buy them or newer than 3 years old. We got stuck with a shitload of VW/Audi work, T-belts, no-start diagnosis shit, water pumps, belts, etc...

Oh, and if you want to put in an aftermarket radio, better take it to the shop. Gotta re-align the throttle bodies whenever you disconnect the battery.
