Put a hole in my oil pan

Well holy fucking christ whore. As if this day couldn't get any worse. I just put a hole in my oil pan. Some fucking moron left some domestic car part (bumper shock) in the road. Even at just 10 miles an hour, it tore a hole in the side of my pan.

Luckily I heard the impact and pulled into the next shop right away. Good thing I pulled over, otherwise I'd be replacing the engine.

So it's being towed to a local shop. It will probably cost $500 but I don't feel like doing this myself. I'm so damn sick of cars. I'd sell mine and buy a honda but I doubt in the end I'd save any money. For ther slightly extra attention the Bimmer takes I may as well ride in style.

I guess I had this coming. I've had a pretty low car for 4 years now and never popped a pan. I'm still pissed this god damn part was in the road. Tempe is such a shithole.

lukas, that blows dude. That's the price we have to pay to look good, I went through 3 oil pans on my Golf. Anyway, where can I buy a skid plate?

That just did it for me Eric, you made my day that was halarious.

Too bad about your oil pan though. But having your car lowered for 4 years and thats your first one, is not that bad of luck.

              Good luck with it.

Sorry to hear about that Eric. At least you heard it and pulled over fast enough before you did any REAL damage.

Fix it, take a ride in the back roads, get head from some chick while driving, realise what you just said, invest in a skid plate, and just think about what you just said.

I'm sorry guys but there are more important things in this world then cars. If my car was not one of a kind, it would be gone as insurance and repairs are killing me. I CAN afford it, I just do not want to afford it. I just got into the stock market game and am having tons of fun. So far I've done well. I also need to set up a Roth before the end of the year. I want to put the max ($3k) in before christmas. I still will probably be able to do this but this incident does set me back.

I mean let's look at this:

                      $3k per year for insurance

                      VS:

                      $3k per year for a roth/IRA

Insurance = money wasted. $3k into a roth/IRA means I'll have a 6-7 figure sum by the time I retire.

                      $500 repair

                      VS:

                      $500 into stock market

                      $500 repair = money gone

$500 into the market means a chance to let it work for me.

I love my e30 but I'll be damned if this thing runs my life.

That's true Eric, but you can't compare cars with other investments because they are liabilities. With only a few exceptions, cars are money pits. Even if you have no modifications whatsoever, never serviced your car and never changed the oil, it would still cost you money in gas and insurance. And even if you never added gas, let it sit in the garage and cancelled your insurance, it would still cost you money in depreciation.

Cars are among the poorest things to invest your money in because you will rarely get any of it back. Just think of it as a girl; sometimes you spend a lot of money and give up much of your time on a girlfriend even though you may fight a lot and not have sex as often as you like. Despite this, you may stay with her because it's a good relationship overall. Then again, if things take a turn for the worse like she cheats on you (or if the car blows a head gasket and cracks the head), then it may be time to look for something else.

$3k a year on insurance?? HOLY SHIT bro.

The rates on my e30 (just looked them up last week) are $1200/yr with my one speeding ticket, and disclosing my accident which i was not at fault in.

Yes, but you have one ticket whereas Eric has what now, 7?

                              2 tickets on record
                              No accidents

                              But:

                              I don't live at home
I live in the car theft capital of the world (I hate the poor fucking roaches that infest Tempe)
                              I have full coverage

Fred you make a good point man, but it still gets to me. At this point I just want my car to run. I want a car that needs the fluid/brakes/tires changed every 4 years, needs the oil changed every 3 months, and needs a full tank of gas every week.
