    Q: Refuse a paypal "e-check"?

So, I'm selling some shocks, buyer is in Canada, this sale has been a pain in the ass. International shipping quotes, lots of PM's back and forth. I've never worked so much to sell a freaking $200 part.

Yesterday I tell him to paypal me or they will go to someone else (felt he was dragging his feet, I could be wrong), but did remind him I need the funds to buy some stuff.

Anyways, he finally paypals me with a "e-check" that takes 6-10 days to clear.

Would anyone consider me a crappy seller if I refunded his money and kindly refused the 6-10 day wait?

As you can see, I want to do the right thing, and pride myself in being a good seller.

    payapl

E checks suck but I usually will wait for them. It basically gives paypal time to pull the funds from the buyer's bank account.

i really wounldnt consider u a bad seller. If u need the money quick, and tell him and he is ok with that, then it is fine.

I have heard of echecks coming back even after they "cleared" after like 3-4 weeks on paypal.

          Proof?

George, it's up to you what you choose to do, but I would just bite the bullet and wait for the echeck to clear. Most buyers do not realize that when they send an echeck that it takes some time to clear- I've had some buyers get mad at ME for this delay, until I sent them the email from Paypal showing the delay and advising me as the seller to NOT ship until it clears.

Otherwise, you can refuse the payment and tell him to resend it another way- but that might be an equal PITA.

If you find that you just can't handle the wait for an echeck- you might want to tell future buyers that you just cannot accept them and they'll have to use other payment methods. I just consider it a part of the Paypal hassle, and deal with it- sort of like waiting on a check or MO to arrive in the mail.

I'd tell him you have the payment and that there will be a delay pending clearance of funds, if you are lucky he won't want to wait. Then he can be the one to kill the deal.

Wow, I use them all the time, and they only take 3-4 DAYS, not weeks. Thats rediculous.

Also, you don't have to worry about a percentage getting taken from Paypal, and if its a rather expensive part then you save a nice chunk.

I wouldn't personally, because thats what I use and I've had no problems at all...

EDIT: I guess it takes longer depending on which bank you belong to, thats odd. Again it only takes 3-4 days and I've never had a bad check at all.

I think that you would indeed be considered a bad seller to not go through with the deal.. especially if he is a first timer. He might be concerned and a little nervous about doing business over the internet but now that he has done the e-check thing, he has made a commitment to buy the item. Granted you probably need the money NOW and you probably can't wait.. but I would only back out now if you have someone else willing and able to pay you cash money right this second. If you decide to kick this guy to the curb and go to the next highest bidder, it could very well be another 6 to 8 days to complete the transaction.

Bite the bullet this time. Next time specify which methods of payment you will accept.
I used "e-check" one time when I was new to ebay.
It cost me too much money, and the seller wouldn't send the item until the thing cleared.
Three weeks. It was ridiculous.Seller hated it.--Never again--Steve
