E30matt, you were lucky that the deer didn't come through the windscreen. Deer can damage cars far more worse than that. Deer are a pain for jumping out on you but one of my mates hit a bull and totalled his car. Another of my mates was riding home on his moped and hit a bull. The moped was ruined and he broke his arm but the bull was fine.

Well, my friend at the body shop estimated $400 for repairing the damaged panels, including paint. What I'm going to probably do is repair the damage and have it primed, and then take it to Bassen Auto Body this summer to get the paint professionally matched... it's only a month and a half, the rest of the car is spotless, and Steve Bassen can make it look flawless. I may go ahead and paint the entire car, it all depends on my money situation. The rest of the car is unscathed. Here's pics:

Yeah, she's not so "schnell" anymore. Car's driveability isn't hurt at all, matter of fact the damage only includes the headlight, hood, and fender, no bumper or valence damage, or wheel/tire/suspension. I have a set of US ellips I'm going to throw on it until I can afford Euros, and then go that route. Hopefully I can jump in on the GB for the HID/Euro ellip setup. Also might be throwing on a CF hood if the right price shows up. It'll be painted to match, of course. No exposed weave on this car .

bah, that aint shit.. my friend hit a deer in the same spot, only he was going 60! new hood, new fender, new light bucket and you're good to go.

edit: don't waste your time "repairing" those panels, unless you want a car full of bondo.. go search junkyards for a hood and fender, won't cost you more than $150. then you can just have them painted.

What's an average cost on a paint job for a hood/fender?

I have no idea.. but he has to paint it anyway, it'll surely be cheaper to just get used ones and have them painted instead of paying for his time to repair them. They will never be like the factory parts if he repairs them, either. I suppose the only good thing about repairing them is the VIN numbers will still match, but I'd rather have an OEM quality fender than one full of bondo.

it's your car, it's up to you. ;)

Well, I'm in a mood to make it "perfect" again, which, granted it won't, but the closer the better. :)

Is your insurance gonna cover this or are you gonna leave them out of it? Doesn't look near as bad as i thought it would. Not too shabby.

No collision on my current policy, but I'm not too worried. I think I'mll go to the parts yards around here and find a new fender, and shop around for a CF hood.

Update... got the US ellips installed off of my other car, and I'm looking for a donor fender/hood. I hear there's an AlpineII parts car over at Motorsport Connections, the local shop, so I'm going to call over and see if the hood and fender are still on it... if so they will be on my baby hopefully by the end of this week, and she'll be close to perfect again.

On a lighter note, I'm in the process of acquiring a set of MHW smoked tails, euro grilles, and a euro plate filler... the deer incident has struck up the mod bug again. Euro bumper trim and smoked smileys will be following this summer. I'm going with a high contrast, but subdued black/white "theme" on the car. ;)

EDIT: Here are some pics of the work I did yesterday afternoon. I straightened out the headlight mounting tabs on the drivers' side, wired up the connectors, installed the US ellips, and "adjusted" (bent) the hood so it wouldn't hit them. I also took a part of the existing US grille and "adjusted" (broke) it so that it would fit in there, so the car won't look so "ghetto fab-o-lus" till I get the fender and hood installed. At least now I can drive it at night and actually see something. I can't believe the difference in light output between the H4/H1s and the ellips, though. Ellips are soooo much dimmer, but I haven't put undipped bulbs in the low beams. I still have a good unit for the passenger side, if anyone needs a Hella H4/H1 headlight unit in good condition.

That isnt too bad. Lot less than what happened to my friends silverado when he hit one going 70. It was like 5k in damage. Not to mention he said the deers bowels released upon impact onto the whole side of his truck. :?

Should be a pretty simple fix, I would say jump on a CF hood if you can.
                        Im now E30less.

Buying used body panels from boneyards includes more than just having them painted. The old paint has to be stripped and the panel cleaned, before any paint-prep work can be done. This translates to labor costs at the body shop. You're better off buying a brand new panel and having it prepped, painted, and installed.

Matt---not 100% sure about those taillights yet. ;)
