        Well, i bought mine for $400 and at the time it needed a giebo, CSB, and the oil pan patch up cause it was cracked (JB weld). Plus a good cleaning. To get it road worthy.

          why do the oil pans crack? from an accident or from hitting bumps and scrapping? why ive heard a lot about cracked pans. any other prices on etas?

            X3. I love my JimC chipped eta. It's plenty quick and is great for the twisties. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a more powerful motor, but that will come once this engine has had it's day. Can't really justify throwing in a new motor when this one does just fine and is lots of fun.

                Mine is rock solid. I beat it mercilessly daily, and have for over two years, except for the times I've driven other cars. Even then, I've left it sitting for months. No special precautions other than Sta-Bil and the car fires right up and goes about its business. Sure, it has its quirks, but I date some girls younger than this car.

                I have driven a couple 325i's, an 87 and an 89, fun, but not nearly enough difference for me to say that it's a night and day difference. In all honesty, I liked my Mk3 VR6 better than the "i" car, and the Mk3s have the shift feel/pedal feel/seating of a uhaul truck.

                Will it win any races? Probably not.
                Is it fun enough for a daily? Very much so, and gets killer MPG for a six.
                Will you feel bad when you lower it so far that it's about undrivable? Not in the least.

                  Ok.. after reading all of this I am convinced that I should go out and get an e to compliment my i. I thought about doing the 5 speed swap on my i but I think I will just find an e with a manual.

                    You'll want to do a short shift, ecodes, some suspension, and sport seats.

                    Mine's DINAN chipped but I run 87 because I'm cheap and don't care... so I don't look at that as a required upgrade on a daily.

                      Trany is the same as an i and so is the diff. The only thing different is the engine and if you have an early 325es, the front air dam is a little different (no oil cooler slots in the bottom of it on an e).

                        tranny has a pickup in the bellhousing and a lower ratio (2.73) rear diff.

                              I think mine got 24-26mpg (doing 80mph with three other people in the car) before i put the 3.73's in it. Now it's somewhere in the teen's

                                Yes, you can get over 30mpg if you drive conservatively on the highway, and it's not japanese... for $1500 or less, you can't beat it unless you find a sweet Saab 900, but even at that, it's FWD vs RWD, and most people here (I think) will favor a RWD car 99&#37; of the time.

                                I know someone is gonna say "I love FWD because RWD sucks in the snow"... To you people I say learn how to drive!! lol

                                Or move out of Canada...
