so today i was driving, and 2nd & 4th gear are barely engaging. they go into gear, but just barely. I'm guessing my tranny shifted back a little...does that mean i need new tranny mounts?

Your trans can not shoft back, that is 100% impossible. Will it stay in gear if you let go of the shifter? Does it grind at all?Originally posted by cabriodster87"Honey? What color is this wire? Maybe your shift selector rod is starting to break, that's the symptoms mine had when it started to break both times. It barely gets into gear then finally the two rod pieces separate. Your car is then stuck in whatever gear you had it in. Usually you get about 50 or so shifts in from the time it begins to get hard to get in gear until the time it breaks completely.
It's fun.

It could be lots of things.
1) Your carpet or another loose thing under the console is preventing your lever going back enough.
2) Your bearings have too much play.
3) Your sinchronizers are shot.
4) shifter bushings.
5) Gear selector.
So tacke the possibilities from cheap to expensive...
Goood luck.;)

Possibly clutch or gear shift linkage related....
potential causes for clutch problem:
Input shaft taper splines not lubricated properly I grease dried out.
Clutch disc difficult to move on transmission input shaft.
Clutch disc wobble.
Air in the hydraulic system of clutch mechanism.
Release bearing defective or difficult to move on the guide sleeve.
Clutch disc or pressure plate broken I worn out.
potential causes for gear shift linkage binding and/or internal transmission:
External gearshift linkage binding (shift rod joints stiff).
Stick shift bellows boot incorrectly installed (positioned too high or too low on the stick shift lever).
Sound deadening between the outer gear shift linkage and the body incorrectly installed and/or distorted.
Possible causes inside of the transmission:
Faulty synchronization.
Internal gear shift linkage binding.
Water in the transmission fluid. (rare)
So, seems like it could be alot of things...
